The Atlanta Falcons spent big money in free agency for the second consecutive year. This time, the team signed QB Kirk Cousins in an attempt to end a six-year playoff drought. Cousins has a track record of success and enough talent around him to succeed in Atlanta this season. The team added eight more players in the 2024 NFL draft before signing 10 undrafted free agents. The Atlanta Falcons made a big investment in quarterback Kirk Cousins during free agency before surprising the entire NFL by selecting Washington’s Michael Penix in the first round of the 2024 draft. Cousins, despite his track record of success, is coming off a torn Achilles and will be 36 when the season begins. While the selection of Penix probably didn’t sit well with Cousins, he can keep the rookie off the field simply by playing good football for the Falcons. The veteran QB looked healthy in a new clip posted by the team’s Twitter account on Thursday. Cousins was shown firing a pass to w ..read more

The bulk of the 2024 NFL offseason has passed and there isn’t much left to do other than potentially sign more free agents. The Atlanta Falcons would have to create additional salary cap space to make any significant moves at this point. While another major signing doesn’t seem likely, it’s never too early to start looking ahead to next year. The Falcons didn’t lose any big names in free agency (aside from Calais Cambell), but that could change in 2025 when several players are slated to hit the open market. Cornerback A.J. Terrell and center Drew Dalman are among those who could be entering th ..read more

The Atlanta Falcons caused an uproar around the NFL after selecting Washington quarterback Michael Penix in the first round of the 2024 draft. Penix was the first truly surprising pick, but mostly because nobody expected the Falcons would be the ones to draft him. While some fans and analysts are still scratching their heads, this decision came down to the philosophy of Falcons head coach Raheem Morris. Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team explained that the decision to draft Penix goes all the way back to the 2020 NFL offseason. Morris, who previously served as the team’s interim head coach in 2020, w ..read more

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2024 draft class hasn’t received much love around the league, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon as NFL analysts look to fill the next two football-less months with content. So while Atlanta won’t be this year’s offseason darling, the roster is considerably better than in 2023, especially at the quarterback position. The selection of Michael Penix — an exciting QB prospect who’s been overlooked for much of his college career — would’ve been viewed differently had the Falcons not signed Kirk Cousins in free agency. After Round 1, the team addressed its defensive fr ..read more

The Atlanta Falcons walked away from the 2024 NFL draft with eight new players, five on the defensive side of the ball. After opening Round 1 with the surprise selection of quarterback Michael Penix, the Falcons didn’t take another offensive player until Round 6. Atlanta drafted Clemson defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro in the second round before adding Washington EDGE Bralen Trice, Oregon’s Brandon Dorlus and Notre Dame linebacker JD Bertrand in Rounds 3-5. Overall, many analysts criticized the Falcons’ draft class for not getting enough value. Rene Bugner takes the time every year to develop ..read more
