If someone were to ask us to list our favorite food, fried chicken would make the top five, no contest. Whether it’s crispy fried or oven baked, with buttermilk or broasted, or Nashville Hot or Korean, we have tried it all. Our addiction to fried chicken has only increased in our discovery of Choong Man Chicken, one of the most underrated Korean fried chicken joints, with one of the spiciest chicken plates we’ve ever found! Our multiple trips to Fairfax, VA have given us the opportunity to try several flavors of chicken and some interesting sides as well. Our journey with Choong Man Chic ..read more

Sheesh Grill

It seems that Middle Eastern cuisine is having a moment in the DC food scene. It is nearly impossible for us to resist the flavor of kebabs and grills that are beginning to permeate the city, so we find ourselves at these Middle Eastern food chains quite often. Sheesh Grill is one of those restaurants that we visit multiple times a month. This chain shines above the others that share its category, with its beautiful yet subtle interior and cleanliness. We have tried almost all the items from the menu by now, but the chicken kabab, chicken kubideh, fries, and chickpeas deserve their own ..read more

Roshogolla

Bengali culture is nothing without Roshogolla. They are inseparable, especially when it comes to Pohela Boshakh (the Bengali New Year), when Roshogolla is practically required. This Bengali New Year was a little different, however. Instead of celebrating out with friends, we were stuck at home. While we were saddened at the idea of not being able to dress up and attend a potluck food fest, we decided to make the most of our situation. To shake things up and get unstuck from our sorrow, I decided to make the traditional Bengali sweet Roshogolla/Rasgolla. While it needs minimal ingredients ..read more

Jilapi (aka Jalebi)

This Ramadan, I tried making the South Asian delight – Jilapi (also known as Jalebi in India and Pakistan). It is a crispy, yet sweet and sticky snack, and very popular in southeast Asian food culture. It’s a Ramadan Iftar tradition in Bangladesh but served on other occasions as well. We had only served store-bought ones up until last year, but thanks to the COVID-19 quarantine, I rolled up my sleeves and attempted to make it at home for the first time. Necessity really is the mother of invention! I found this recipe on YouTube: Jilapi/instant Jilapi-Spice Bangla. After following th ..read more

A creation of chef Jeremiah Langhorne, The Dabney is located in Blagden Alley, Washington D.C. It has been our top pick on many occasions. Getting a reservation, unfortunately, is as tough as getting an iPhone on the first day of launch. After walking down the Blagden Alley and stepping into this beautiful, Streetsense-designed restaurant, you instantly feel welcomed by this comforting vibe. Outstanding hosting and service provide you with a pleasant experience even before you get your food. Chef Jeremiah uses only regional ingredients to create his Mid-Atlantic cuisines. Ottoman Taverna

Last year, on our way back to DC, we had an unexpected layover in Istanbul. Though it was only a 24-hour stay, this was enough time to renew our love for Turkish cuisine. We transformed, turning into döner kebab and shawarma hunters from that moment on. Unable to satiate our love of Turkish cuisine, we took our search back home. We found a hidden gem at the Mt. Vernon Triangle in Washington, D.C., which transported us back to our Istanbul layover, with the honeycomb pattern on the walls and the large mural of the Hagia Sophia. The glimmering, deep-blue pendants, and whitewashed walls al ..read more

It was date night! One wintery, D.C. evening, we walked into this cozy Russian restaurant near Dupont Circle. The bright, elegant décor dazzled us immediately. Given the choice of a table by the window and dining by the kitchen, we picked the obvious: next to the kitchen bar. There, we could see the Chef preparing meals and were even able to interact with him. We tried the authentically Russian Beef Stroganoff & Chicken Kiev, as anything fried with chicken is a deal-breaker for Mr. Bhuriwala. We loved the familiar, yet unique flavor in both dishes. We also tried the appetizer Khinka ..read more

The Inn at Little Washington

Chef Patrick O’Connell unquestionably deserves the three Michelin Stars he received for this timeless establishment. The Inn at Little Washington is an American anomaly, as it is a literal destination and eternally relevant. Dining here is like dining on another planet – the good kind of planet. It was the 31st of January 2020. Mr. Bhuriwala had secretly planned my birthday dinner at this restaurant – one that I had no idea even existed. “Where the hell are we going?” I wondered while en route to this restaurant in Little Washington, a tiny suburb outside the city. When we arrived, the ..read more
