Watch Your Mouth: The Power of Words
Everything Refiloe

The words we choose when communicating are so important, they have a very lasting impact and can create a lasting memory, either good or bad, so it’s very important to choose them wisely. Words can make or break a relationship and your choice of words and the way you express yourself can advance or halt your career. I’ve noticed lately that I am very sensitive to what words a person chooses when they talk to me, and I think I’ve always known this about myself, I just wasn’t consciously aware of it, and since I’ve now brought it to the surface, I find myself being extra vigilant about what, to ..read more

If you’re a regular here, you know that I am a writer at heart, but what you may not know is that writing has been a coping mechanism of mine for years, long before I started this blog. It’s how I make sense of the world and organise my thoughts, especially when I am feeling overwhelmed or can’t make sense of a situation. I’ve written letters to loved ones to better express myself if and when I was feeling misunderstood or unheard, some of those letters I sent, some I didn’t, because sometimes I knew that it wasn’t worth it and it wasn’t going to help, so I’d just write them to unburden ..read more

Dumelang bathong. It’s me, your favourite inconsistent blogger, back again with another post after yet another hiatus. Let me start off by saying that 2022 has been throwing hands from the jump and your girl has been fighting back, but unfortunately, that meant taking a step back from other things, one of which was blogging, but she’s back like she never left. How are you guys doing? I hope le grand bafethu and this year has been kind to you. I am gonna talk about something I’ve talked about quite a few times, I’ve even written a post about it on this here blog. Growing up, I wanted to get bra ..read more

Are you familiar with that annoying feeling of inadequacy, self-doubt and feeling like a fraud because you can’t meet your own perfectionist standards? That gnawing feeling of being tortured by your own mind? If you’ve never experienced any of that, you’re lucky because those, my friend, are the dreadful feelings brought on by Impostor Syndrome.  Despite being pretty kick ass at my job, with a few years of experience under my belt to boot, I sometimes feel like I’m not the best I can be or that I don’t deserve all that I’ve achieved and eventually someone is gonna catch on that I’m a frau ..read more

Hello beautiful people! How have you been since we last connected? Good? I hope so, I’ve been good thank you, life kinda got in the way and I haven’t had a minute to sit down and do one of my absolute favourite things: unload my thoughts on all of you . Anyway, I know I told yall about my move to the UK, but I realised that I didn’t tell you how it came about and how I got the visa to be able to work in the UK, how rude of me! So, I’m going rectify that right now and let you in on the entire process.  Now, before we even go anywhere, here’s a disclaimer: I’m in no way an immigration expe ..read more

Happy Anniversary! Bathong, I can’t believe it’s been a year already since I started this blog! My goodness, somehow it feels a lot longer than that, and a lot shorter at the same time. I hope you are all feeling amazing because I sure as hell am. I feel so much better than I did when I wrote my last post, I can confidently say that I have figured out a routine that keeps me sane and makes me feel like I am successfully adulting, for the most part. I know I keep pulling a Houdini and disappearing on you all but please bear with me, the girl is trying to get this Work/Life balance thing right ..read more

Happy 2021 bathong! January was a trial month so we are still very much in the new year spirit. Unlike when I say this in my work emails, this time I truly do hope you are all well, in good health and in good spirits. (I’ve typed “Hope you’re well” so many times, it may have lost all meaning, but I digress.) I haven’t done this in so long, I had to have a mini refresher course on how to blog, so forgive me if this post is all over the place. I was planning to apologise for disappearing for so long, and tell you how sorry I am that I just fell off the face of the earth without any explanation ..read more

Hello beautiful people! Man, it’s been a minute since I’ve sat down and unloaded my thoughts on all of you. How are ya’ll doing? You good? I hope you’re doing good, in these covid streets. So, where have I been you may or may not be wondering? Whew chile! I have been feeling so uninspired and unmotivated to write for the past couple of weeks, so much so that I took a conscious decision not to force it. I don’t know how many times I’ve sat in front of my laptop and tried to force myself to write, just for the sake of posting, and I really couldn’t bring myself to do it, especially because my h ..read more

Birthday Chocolate & Vanilla Oreo Cake
Everything Refiloe

Last week was my boyfriend’s birthday (Happy Birthday Baby!), so being the awesome & amazing girlfriend that I am, I decided to bake him a birthday cake. I know he loves chocolate cake and he loves oreos (who doesn’t?), so I came up with the genius idea to combine the 2 and make a chocolate and vanilla oreo cake. I wanted the cake to resemble an oreo cookie so I made 2 layers of chocolate cake and 1 layer of vanilla cake in the middle and covered it with delicious cream cheese buttercream frosting. The cake was so delicious and decadent, I really think it’s now my favourite cake. The bir ..read more
