A new executive order in the state’s fight against the coronavirus has been issued by Gov Kemp. The governor announced today that those who are 65 years and older are no longer required to shelter in place, effective immediately, unless they are living in long-term care facilities or if they are medically fragile. Anyone who otherwise is medically compromised – including those who have chronic diseases or underlying health conditions is still being asked to stay at home. The order went into effect Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m. and was originally going to expire on Monday, April 13, at 11:59 p.m. The extension and new orders comes after Georgia passed 9,900 cases of coronavirus. As of Wednesday at noon, only 360 people have died because of the virus. Restaurants and private social clubs will continue to not open for dine-in services as part of the shelter-in-place order.
