A 17-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old high school junior in Southern Dallas Sunday morning is in police custody. The Dallas Police Department said Monday afternoon they were looking for 17-year-old Trevon Darnell Wright in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Ikea Imari Hood, a mother to a 3-week-old infant girl and a junior at Lancaster High School. An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Wright on Monday, police said. He was taken into custody sometime Tuesday by a U.S. Marshals Task Force and taken to the Dallas County Jail. Yaqub Talib was formally sentenced Monday for the killing of 43-year-old youth football coach Michael Hickmon. Talib was sentenced to 37 years for the fatal shooting that took place in August 2022 at a youth football game. Talib agreed to a plea bargain on July 20 but the formal sentencing was scheduled for Monday, Aug. 7. Victim impact statements were delivered Monday morning in the courtroom. Yaqub Talib, the brother of retired NFL player Aqib Talib, will spend decades behind bars after taking a plea deal in a 2022 murder case where he was accused of fatally shooting a youth football coach during a game. Video of a confrontation involving Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies in a Lancaster grocery store parking lot is now part of a departmental use of force investigation. Witness and body-worn camera videos captured the encounter June 24 when deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to a 911 report of a robbery at a WinCo store in the 700 block of West Avenue. Cities scattered across North Texas have reported mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus. DALLAS COUNTY Dallas County Health and Human Services said Tuesday they will begin ground spraying for mosquitoes after samples tested positive for West Nile virus in Coppell (75019), Lancaster (75146) and Seagoville (75159). So far this season, DCHHS said West Nile virus has been confirmed in 16 traps at 17 mosquito pools in Balch Springs, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Garland, Irving, Lancaster, Mesquite, Richardson and Seagoville. Fire crews are on the scene of a hazardous chemical leak at a commercial building in the 2000 block of Danieldale Road in Lancaster. Texas Sky Ranger flew over the scene Monday afternoon where video shows employees outside of the building after being evacuated. The initial call was for an ammonia leak, but the exact chemical that was leaked has not been confirmed.
