A couple of weeks ago, Hayden and I wore on the hunt for an Italian dinner. Thankfully, there are millions of options in Amsterdam, with a new one popping up every week (or so). But, that also means that you need to filter through, especially since a dinner at an Italian restaurant in Amsterdam is usually not a cheap night out. After hours of research through all the names, I’ve landed on La Trattoria Di Donna Sofia.
It’s been around for about 10 years, and it’s located on one of my favorite streets in Amsterdam. I’ve passed this quaint little spot in Jordaan many times, but never stopped by ..read more

Sounds familiar? Fuku Ramen? If you follow an Amsterdam based food feed, you’ve probably seen this name around. Fairly new, but already building a reputation for their ramen bowls, Fuku Ramen only offers a chef’s menu from Thursday to Saturday, and an à la carte ramen lunch every Sunday. Simple. Is that the secret?
A couple of years ago, everyone was raving about Ramen Kingdom. To my shame, I still haven’t visited them, yet I promised myself I’ll stay in that line one day. Lately, however, I’ve started hearing about a possible competition for the best ramen in Amsterdam – and that’s when I’ve ..read more

Last month has been my “peaking bride to be” time of the year – I’ve had not one, but 2 bachelorette parties, and a US style bridal shower in Dallas! It’s been lovely, heart-warming and boozy. For my second, party, even a friend from Canada came over! To send her off, the girlies group and a couple of our +1s had dinner at Arles.
Arles is a modern bistro in De Pijp, with an extensive list of French wine, and a menu of French inspired dishes with international twists. You can have a 3 or 4-course meal, as well as a chef’s menu (I think this is 5 dishes). If you want the chef’s menu, the whole t ..read more

What’s up, Amsterdammers? Has anyone else noticed that if you’re trying to find a new food spot in the city, they’re all French? Don’t get me wrong, I love me some French cuisine, but how many bistros can we take?
Anyway – I was looking for something completely different for our recent date night, so we ended up at Miri Mary: Indian food with a modern, fancy twist. Sign me up!
Miri Mary has also been pretty popular on my Insta feed, with some bloggers claiming to “go back for the third time in a month”.
The concept is shared plates. Most dishes are of medium size, so it’s probably more food th ..read more

It has finally happened. The Monday date night at nNea that I’ve had in my calendar since January, has finally happened. We went to check out the 54th best pizza in the world, and the best pizza in the Netherlands.
If you’re wondering where the name comes from, nNea is the New Neapolis: the metropolis of a new pizza era. According to the chefs, “since day zero the goal has been to embrace the renaissance of pizza and to create new paths, new stories to tell and new traditions to pursue”. Pretty poetic – I love it.
However, let’s start with the timing issues. I’m not exaggerating when saying I ..read more

I already miss the last weekend – that first long weekend of the year always hits the spot. To kick off the festivities (and to celebrate that I’m no longer sick after about a week), I was looking at a cute date night spot. I wanted to save some money, so was researching that sweet, middle-ground place for a good meal. I’ve realized that there’s no such thing anymore. Okay, that’s an exaggeration – but finding a main under €20 in a restaurant that you’d want to have a date night at…tough one.
Later on, I’ve decided that I’m upping my budget to look for an affordable nice option. Here’s where a ..read more

Le Hollandais – the French restaurant that sounds Dutch. But then again, so does the Hollandaise sauce, so nothing odd here.
This restaurant is part of Shortlist Amsterdam, a book I got from Hayden for my birthday a couple of years ago. I turn to it whenever I’m looking for a meal that fits a special occasion. The edition I have is a little bit older, which means that when I research certain restaurants mentioned there, the reviews aren’t great anymore. Well, the only constant thing is change, I guess.
Le Hollandais was an exception, though. It still has exceptional reviews and seems to be a c ..read more

If you’re in the “business” of food reviews in Amsterdam, you couldn’t miss reels and millions of posts about one of the newest spots: Yuzu dining bar. So naturally, I had to make my way over there before they get to 50 Google reviews.
The first thing that sets this place apart is the setting. There are a couple of small tables, but most of the space is occupied by a big, central table that you share with others. It’s different to the usual Amsterdam setting, and it brings a good, community vibe. I like it.
Now, let’s talk about their menu: it’s specialized in modern-style Japanese yakitori di ..read more

Is there anything better than Sunday brunch? Good food, drinks, friends, laughs…then I wonder why I have the Mondays blues every week.
Last week we’ve decided to explore a part of Amsterdam West that we don’t usually go to, around Erasmuspark. There, we found Cafe Cook (’cause it’s on James Cookstraat, get it?). Not sure how long they’ve been there, but I’m always thrilled to find new spots with good reviews around the neighborhood.
This one was a fairly early brunch, at 11…one may call it breakfast, but add a beer, and bam – brunch. We’ve had some drinks before having a look at their small me ..read more

2023 – new year, new food! Hopefully some good stuff. Been away for a couple of months, mostly because our foodie budget was spent on too much beer watching the world cup games. Also visited London (more food) and Romania for Christmas (you guessed it, more food). No regrets though, because I’m back with a gem that’s new in the neighbourhood. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s talk about Jenifer Street!
This small(ish) and cozy spot only opened a couple of months ago, in the same spot where Afghan restaurant Mantoe used to be, on the streets of Jordaan. Jenifer Street is a Cajun restaurant. It’s not t ..read more
