Police responded just before 4 a.m. to the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a reported gunshot victim. NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) -- The Craven County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a man in the 2018 murder of another man. Gerard Alexander Brimmer Jr., 28, of 5455 N.C. Hwy 55 West in New Bern has been charged with an open count of murder in the death of Leon Deondre Carmen. Brimmer was being held without bond in the Craven County Detention Facility. NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) -- On Tuesday, the Board of Aldermen met in New Bern. One of the items on the agenda included the approval of a contract for work on Walt Bellamy Drive and Bern Street. Just over half a million dollars will go into water and sewage improvements for both the 1200 block of Walt Bellamy Drive and the 300 block of Bern Street. NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) -- A fishing pier could be coming to New Bern. It's a project that's been years in the making. It will be a 225-foot pier extending into the Neuse River at the roundabout at the end of Broad Street. Colleen Roberts, public information officer for New Bern, said the pier itself is expected to cost around $300,00. Discussions are ongoing about the parking for the pier. NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) -- Two people have been charged with going into the Colonial Capital Humane Society and stealing a cat, according to the Craven County Sheriff's Office. On Wednesday at around 6:45 p.m., deputies were called to Colonial Capital Humane Society after volunteers realized one of the cats had been stolen.
