It's finally draft week and the 2024 NFL Draft is just a few days away where the Chicago Bears are waiting to make the first overall pick. I decided to do a full NFC East 7-round mock draft to see how the division rivals can draft players in an attempt to overtake their division counterparts. The Washington Commanders lead the way with nine total picks followed by the Philadelphia Eagles with eight, the Dallas Cowboys with seven, and finally the New York Giants with six picks. For the sake of not losing my mind trying to play pretend general manager for four different teams, there will be no ..read more

The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been marked by significant departures and strategic silences, posing a substantial challenge as the team looks toward the 2024 NFL Draft. Offseason Overview: Key Departures and Strategic Gaps The Cowboys have seen an unsettling number of departures in key positions early in the offseason. Running back Tony Pollard, center Tyler Biadasz, left tackle Tyron Smith, and edge rusher Dorance Armstrong have all left for other teams. Additionally, wide receiver Michael Gallup was cut, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch retired, and cornerback Stephon Gilmore has not been ..read more

In what has been a quiet offseason for the Cowboys, they are in the news today after a contract decision. The Dallas front office has picked up the 5th-year option on Micah Parsons' contract. This means Parsons will be paid just over $21M in 2025, adding a guaranteed extra season with him in Dallas. Pre-draft presser just more of the tired “All-in” routine from Jerry Jones

Here we are, on the eve of the 2024 NFL Draft, and the beleaguered fan base of the Dallas Cowboys turn their weary eyes toward The Star. They're seeking signs of hope. A reason to believe that this season – the 29th since the last Cowboys' Super Bowl victory – will be better. If you're reading this and looking for an affirmative answer — you've come to the wrong shop. I lasted 30 seconds into Tuesday's Cowboys pre-Draft presser with Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, and Mike McCarthy. I turned it off before my monitor had to pay the ultimate price. I immediately started sharpening a katana for sepp ..read more

What round is worth the risk of drafting an LB?

Eric Kendricks and Damone Clark are the two names the Cowboys currently have manning the linebacker spot on this football team. Yes, DeMarvion Overshown will return once he recovers from injury, but depth at the position is going to be needed. With that said, what round would be smart for the Cowboys to make that pick on a linebacker? In the past, Dallas has found success finding players like Sean Lee, Leighton Vander Esch, and even Jaylon Smith when he was good for his one season. Here ye, here ye. Come one, come all to this draft week #Cowboys seven-rounder. Let the fun begin! pic.twitter ..read more

Jackson Powers-Johnson is the right pick at No. 24 Thursday

The NFL draft is Thursday, and let's just be clear before you read my post. These are my thoughts, you have yours and I have mine, if you don't agree, I would love to hear who you'd like the Cowboys to take at 24. With that said, if Jackson Powers-Johnson is there and the Cowboys do not trade down, I would take him. Powers-Johnson is inexperienced (only 13 starts), but he is big and powerful and was dominant during the 2023 season. Dallas loves having big centers to keep the middle of the pocket clean for Dak Prescott. Dallas also loves investing in its offensive line, and “JPJ” is one of thi ..read more

We are less than a week away from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announcing the #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears. After several mock drafts leading up to the big day, today is the day I release my final Cowboys mock draft before the main event starts this Thursday. As always, I utilized the Pro Football Focus Mock Draft Simulator with all the settings on median level to complete this mock. Round 1 Pick 28 *From BUF* **Trade**: DAL gets 28 and 60; BUF gets 24 and 87 Selection: OL Graham Barton, Duke The first round couldn't have gone any better for me as the imaginary ..read more

3 Late Round Players for the Cowboys in 2024 Draft

This time next week, we will know what the Cowboys draft class looks like. We all know how important those first couple of picks will be, considering how much the team lost in free agency. They need to hit on their three top-100 picks if they want to see success in 2024. At the same time, however, Dallas's lack of draft capital and roster weaknesses make their late-round selections just as important. In 2023, the Cowboys draft class saw limited success from any of their draftees. 2023 Dallas Cowboys Draft Class 1: Mazi Smith, Michigan 2: Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan 3: DeMarvion Overshown, Tex ..read more

Special teams is one area the Cowboys won’t draft in 2024

If Roger Goodell – or any of his replacements – steps up to the podium in Detroit later this week and announces the Cowboys have drafted a tight end, kicker, or a punter… Seriously, I expect all of you to join me at The Star with lit torches and sharpened pitchforks in hand. The one area Dallas is completely locked in at is special teams. None of their seven picks should go in this direction. The Cowboys lucked – honestly, there's no other word for it – into landing their kicker for the next decade. Brandon Aubrey's record-setting season in 2023 should all but cement his place on the roster t ..read more

3 positions the Cowboys could add a veteran before the draft

Earlier this week, the Dallas Cowboys signed veteran RB Royce Freeman to a one-year deal ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a classic move by the Cowboys that we have come to expect every offseason around this time. They plug holes in the roster with capable and cheaply priced veterans so they aren't pigeonholed into addressing any certain position in the draft. The team has more holes than usual this year after losing nearly a dozen players in free agency. That near dozen included starting LT Tyron Smith, starting C Tyler Biadasz, and starting RB Tony Pollard. If we really want to lay out t ..read more
