By Jackie Medcalf CHANNELVIEW – Greg Moss lost his home the first weekend in March to a house fire, which is being investigated as arson. The fire destroyed everything in his home, and Greg could use your support as he rebuilds his life. His home is located in an area along the San Jacinto River known as the River Bottom, and Greg’s business is also located on his property. By David Taylor Managing Editor The Texas Department of Transportation hosted a public meeting at the North Channel Library last week for the I-10 East Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study, an early step in the development of transportation for the east side of I-10 stretching from I-69 in downtown to SH-99 or the Grand Parkway in Chambers County. EAST HARRIS COUNTY – TXDOT, the Texas Department of Transportation, has announced that they will hold two public meetings in September, to inform the public of plans for reconstruction of the I-10 bridge over the San Jacinto River, and the rebuilding of travel lanes of I-10, from Magnolia Street to Thompson Road and Spur 330. CHANNELVIEW – Residents of this community along River Road have been fighting a barge storage company, for over a year to keep the San Jacinto River from filling up with more barges that obstruct water flow, recreational boat traffic, and are an eyesore. They are also a hazard if they break loose in a flood. They were surprised and angry to see last week that the company had started work on piles in an area where they want to store more barges. HIGHLANDS – The cleanup is starting at the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund Site according to THEA director Jackie Medcalf, and an announcement from the EPA in Dallas. Initially the work will involve the Southern Impoundment site, not the Northern Impoundment. In addition to the announcement, EPA is planning a Community Town Hall Meeting on December 5. Highlands Firemen battle house fire on Inwood Lane last Saturday night. Improper disposal of fireworks is listed as the cause of the fire. HIGHLANDS – At approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday night, July 3, Highlands Fire Department along with mutual aid from Crosby Fire Department, Channelview Fire Department, and Sheldon Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 200 Block of Inwood Ln.
