According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics have chosen Ime Udoka as the club’s next head coach. Udoka, 43, spent the 20-21 season as an assistant for the Brooklyn Nets. Udoka will become the 18th head coach in franchise history as he seeks to succeed newly minted president of basketball operations Brad Stevens. There are several reasons why Udoka is such an intriguing pick. First, Udoka has been an assistant head coach in the NBA since 2012, spending time with the Spurs and 76ers, as well as the Nets. He has first-hand experience with not only contenders and high-powered offenses, bu ..read more

Brad Stevens has only been Celtics president of basketball operations for a few weeks, but that didn’t stop him from going out and making a splash. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston is sending Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in this year’s draft, and a ’25 second-round pick to Oklahoma City. The C’s will take back center Moses Brown, a ’23 second-round pick, and old friend Al Horford in the deal. This is big time move for a Boston team still licking its wounds from a disastrous 20-21 season. What happens next is unclear, but certainly Stevens and Co. weren’t looking to just r ..read more

Danny Ainge’s has retired as Boston Celtics president of basketball operations, and things have begun to move quickly. Already Brad Stevens has stepped in to fill his place, and the search for a new head coach has begun. In his introductory press conference, Stevens gave few clues about where his coaching search may lead. “One of the things I’ve learned being in coaching, coaching against other great coaches, learning things from the people that you coach against, is there’s a lot of different ways to coach. And there’s a lot of different ways to be successful as a coach.” The list ..read more

At the time of this writing, the sun hasn’t fully set on the 2020-21 Boston Celtics season. The team is still in the mix in a crowded Eastern Conference. Still, once news broke Jaylen Brown would be sidelined indefinitely, it was Good Night Irene for the guys in Green. A deep postseason run is unlikely for this Celtics squad. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the C’s. Though Brown’s injury is the nail in the coffin, Boston has unable to find its footing all year long. Folks around the Hub have tried throughout the season to diagnose the Celtics, usually with sweeping, hyp ..read more

A sports team’s logo does some surprisingly heavy lifting. It is the primary branding agent, anchoring billions of dollars in ticket sales, merchandising, and more. But certain logos – like ol’ Lucky the Leprechaun – transcend business, and can even become cultural icons. Lucky didn’t actually show up until 1950. And the Boston Celtics current logo, the one with which you’re perhaps most familiar, was only crafted in 1996. Since the club’s founding 75 years ago, there have been six official team logos in fact. (The one at the top of this page is from 2014 and technically an “alterna ..read more

The Celtics are putrid in the fourth quarter, but who’s to blame?

Last year, poor play in the fourth quarter doomed the Boston Celtics in the postseason. In the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, the C’s were positively inept in the final frame. Boston posted a -3.2 in fourth quarters during the ECF. The team shot just 30.5 percent from three, coughed up 4.3 turnovers, and committed 7.0 fouls in the final period of games for the series. The Heat deserve credit here for their excellent defense, but the fact of the matter is this: The Celtics choked like dogs. This devastating trend has continued into the 20-21 campaign.
