At the request of a long-time student of mine, I would like to share with you a gentle and easy session that you can do to relax instantly. And to keep you both calm and alert and let go of stress. One of the most popular sessions that I have ever created, the link below has been clicked (and presumably used!) 7238 times in the last few years. You can use it to help break out of internet/smartphone distractions. And to connect simultaneously to your body, breath, and the external world so that you can chill out, relax and move onto the next part of your day or evening. Do this session and I gu ..read more

Feldenkrais and Einstein: Thinking Without Words
Ryan Nagy

I was reading a passage from the book Hare Brain, Tortoise Mind: How Intelligence Increases When You Think Less and saw a quote by Albert Einstein about his creative process. It instantly reminded me of some similar thoughts by Moshe on his process of self-use as reported in Body Awareness as Healing Therapy: The Case of Nora. Both Einstein and Feldenkrais dropped words and thought in the visual system. Einstein: When Language Interferes “The words of the language as they are written or spoken do not seem to play any role in my mechanism of thought. The psychical entities which seem to serve ..read more

Feldenkrais Student and Teacher Demographics in the United States
Ryan Nagy

Would it surprise you to learn that most people do Feldenkrais because they want to get out of pain? Would it surprise you to learn that over 80% of students and practitioners are female and white? And that most practitioners do not get the majority of their income from teaching Feldenkrais? Those are some findings from a somewhat old survey whose data I was reviewing just a few minutes ago, though I have no reason to believe that the demographics have changed much. It was conducted in 2010 and published in 2014 in a peer-review journal called. BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies. Here is ..read more

3 weird tips to eliminate dizziness and vertigo
Ryan Nagy
by Ryan Nagy

Staying with the topic of Feldenkrais to eliminate vertigo, I want to share with you the tips that I have given nearly a dozen people via personal email conversations in the last few days on eliminating dizziness and vertigo. No point in keeping them secret! Some of these might seem weird, but they can work wonders: 1) Anything that lets you feel and focus on support from your feet will help. Sit down and feel your feet on the floor while you are sitting. Or lie down, bend your knees, and feel your feet on the floor. Feel your feet and your stability in any way that feels comfortable. 2) Sit d ..read more

Feldenkrais and Vertigo

Feldenkrais Series That Can Help Reduce and Eliminate Dizziness and Vertigo Vertigo and Feldenkrais have been coming up several times a month in email conversations and I want to address them for anyone who may be suffering from them. Vertigo and dizziness are common to many people and often come about via medical and non-medical conditions. They can often be helped and even eliminated by some relatively simple Feldenkrais interventions. Recurrent vertigo can be incredibly debilitating. It is sometimes described as a feeling of spinning or swaying, even when you are standing still. It is somet ..read more

Feldenkrais Trainer Jerry Karzen Denies Abuse Allegations

On a regular basis, I have been sending emails to various people in the Feldenkrais Guild community trying to get them to go on the record about the abuse allegations that have been leveled against several Feldenkrais Trainers, Assistant trainers, and others. You can get a sense of the scope of the allegations by reading a #metoo "manifesto" that was presented to the International Feldenkrais Federation Assembly in 2018. I uploaded it here. I first published a blog post on the topic in December of 2020, called Abuse Allegations in Feldenkrais Guild Training Community. My blog post was based, i ..read more

Ryan Nagy Travels: “New” YouTube Channel
Ryan Nagy

Deeply annoyed yesterday when I could not find one on my own YouTube channels to share a video with my girlfriend! So, in the interest of letting YouTube know that Ryan Around Mexico & Off The Beaten Path is my channel and that the algorithm should associate the channel with my name, here is a new video about my life in Mexico. I am moving in 2 days to the beach to live in a tiny house with my 3 dogs and cat. And will start planning where to go next. Nagy's Nomad Life In Mexico Begins Again Yes, I know the video is basic, and the editing is not-so-hot. But you have to start somewhere, no ..read more

Feldenkrais Pain Relief Step-By-Step

I want to share with you a session that can help you get rid of strain, that you didn't even know that you had in your neck and spine. Interested? You can do just the first 5 to 10. minutes of the audio session below and you will benefit. Though watch the video first! The session is even gentler and more subtle than the majority of Feldenkrais sessions because I was teaching it in an infancy and childhood development class that had a huge variety of ages and abilities. I created the session so that everyone would have a really good chance of being able to do the session and get a relaxing and ..read more

Think Your Pain Symptoms are Caused by a Structural Problem?
Ryan Nagy

You might want to think again. Have you or a loved one ever been in that uncomfortable position of asking a health provider: “What is the cause of my back pain? “…shoulder pain?” “…neck pain?” or some other painful condition? And your well-meaning nurse, doctor, or physical therapist was kind enough to do a “diagnosis” with an MRI or X-Ray, solemnly telling you afterward that the cause was: a torn rotator cuff degenerative disc disease disc protrusion or some other scary and official-sounding “cause”? And those explanations sound convincing, do they not? If a person has intense and recurring b ..read more

Dear practitioner: You will not be replaced by AI
Ryan Nagy

Artificial intelligence cannot feel. It has no body nor thoughts to sense. It cannot become self-aware (nor be aware that it has no self to be aware of). Nor can it ask itself about the meaning or value of what it is doing.  What it *can* do is reconfigure words and symbols that it has been fed and spit them back out in writing or mathematical formulas. The words generated are not creative, but they might be at some point.  Even so, when it writes AI has no underlying experience to understand if the words have meaning or if there are experiential gaps. Humans have to do that.  H ..read more
