Do you ever feel like you’re just keeping your head above water and if someone threw you a life preserver you just might take it? But then….. you rally and swim to the side and catch your breath. Beginning this new adventure I’m feeling like….. Can I really do this? Am I strong enough? Am I smart enough? Why did I think people would like this? That’s OK! This is Normal! At 49, I’m at a point in my life where I can take charge, or grow old….it’s my choice. So…I’m writing Fearlessly Facing Fifty©, sharing my story, producing a podcast, facilitating roundtables and speaking at events and still a ..read more

I was recently asked, “How come there is a 20-year gap in my resume?” I can easily explain. Here are my professional skills not in any specific order: Teacher:  I have done more school projects than your average Joe.  I have taught ‘people’ their first words, shapes, colors.  I’ve learned math the ‘new way’…still don’t get it. I could list more skills and elaborate, but you probably get the point. Please also note…I also can recite the book ‘Everyone Poops’ by memory. (impressed much?) Chef:  I have prepared healthy lunches for years including all five food groups. (some l ..read more

Answer this riddle: They’re easy to give, but challenging to receive. What am I? A compliment! I love looking for the good in everyone, and I think most people do the same. Most people love to be noticed, but only some know how to accept a compliment. Others may be inclined to deflect the attention. Check that box? Don’t worry it’s normal….women are really good at giving compliments….but when it comes to receiving them, we need a little work. What should we say…or how should we act when we receive a compliment? On the Other Side of Fear is Magic

“But when I turned 50, my dear friend, Maya Angelou was still alive, and Maya said to me, “Babe, the fifties are everything you’ve been meaning to be. It’s everything you thought you might do. This is it. It’s coming in. You’re not even there yet.” Oprah Winfrey On the other side of fear is magic. I’m not smart enough to contribute to that conversation, so I’ll just listen. I’m not qualified for this job, and haven’t worked for 10 years, I don’t have a chance of being considered. I’m just a stay at home mom. If you’re anything like me, or thousands (probably millions) of other women at midlif ..read more

I am officially taking the “B” word out of my vocabulary.

Now I know what you’re thinking…..but the “B” word I’m talking about is BUSY! I’m kicking “I’m too busy” and “I’m so busy” to the curb! Thinking back I can remember a time in my life when I believed that my happiness revolved around how busy I was.  If I wasn’t busy….something had to be wrong with me.  And I had equated and perfected in my mind that if I was busy, I was using my time wisely.  At the end of the day, it was purely a validation thing for me….and proving to myself that I was valuable.  I had the mindset that the busier I was, the more successful I would be, an ..read more

Horseshoes or Circles?
Fearlessly Facing Fifty

So this happened I was sitting in the audience at an event with about 200 women. All ages, backgrounds…completely diverse group of ladies. The moderator chose 15 random women from the audience to come forward to the stage. The 15 women were asked to simply form a tight circle, standing as close to each other as possible with no gaps. They were given no other directions. Then, the moderator chose another random audience member to join her on stage. What happened next still gives me goosebumps The moderator then asks the one woman who just walked on stage to try and join the circle. Keep in min ..read more

Sitting down to write my first post…I suppose it’s comparable to a first impression….all those crazy notions swirling around in your head…feeling a bit like an awkward teenager wondering if the first post will be cool enough, interesting enough, let’s face it…smart enough to make you want to take a minute out of your day to find some enjoyment or value in this…how am I doing so far? So here’s the skinny. I’m not special, gifted, or have celebrity status. I’m not famous and haven’t been on one of those reality tv shows (but I was just a guest on the Mel Robbins show which was ‘ahhhhmazing‘ and ..read more
