While attending Notre Dame School in Nicaragua, Fidel Maltez was a standout in varsity basketball and soccer. He later played intramural and club soccer at Lafayette College where he received his degree in civil engineering.
When Fidel Maltez and his wife, Maria Belen Power (who also attended Notre Dame School where they first met in high school) celebrated the birth of their first child, Maya, in 2013, Fidel became inspired to take up the sport of running.

Last week, Senator Sal DiDomenico spoke at a rally hosted by the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters on the State House Steps. DiDomenico spoke about the importance of passing his wage theft bill (S.1158) alongside Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch, the House sponsor of his Wage Theft bill, State Rep. Daniel Donahue, and workers fighting for worker protections. State and Chelsea officials, along with local nonprofit La Colaborativa, held a public forum at the senior center last week on the proposed temporary migrant safety net shelter at the old Chelsea Soldiers’ Home.
Late last month, state officials announced that the shuttered Quigley hospital building, which is slated for demolition, will be home to a temporary shelter for the next six to 12 months. The shelter will house up to 100 families.

Nearly six years after starting the process, the school district is close to finding a new home for its Chelsea Opportunity Academy and the Intergenerational Literacy Program.
Currently, the Chelsea Opportunity Academy (COA) uses classrooms at Chelsea High School, and the Intergenerational Literacy Program (ILP) does the same at the Early Learning Center.
The school administration is currently in the final stages of selecting a potential site that would combine the two programs in one location, and also free up classroom space at the high school and the Early Learning Center.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) recently arrested a Salvadoran national charged locally with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a family or household member.
Deportation officers with ERO Boston apprehended the 27-year-old noncitizen March 28 near his residence in Chelsea. He is a documented member of the notorious MS-13 transnational street gang, according to a press release from ICE.

From the moment he walked into the Sagamore Club last Wednesday night, Joe Bevere was clearly having the time of his life.
Players from his 1975 Division 2 Eastern Mass. championship Chelsea High baseball team and other alumni were there for a special reunion with Coach Joe Bevere, who was joined by his daughters, Jacqueline and Jolene, and his son, Joe Bevere Jr., at the celebration.
The stories were grand at the reunion about what co-captain Bobby Spinney called “a magical year,” that was piloted by head coach Joe Bevere and assistant coach Frank Herlihy.
