CHELSEA (CBS) — Crews in Chelsea began removing a pile of hazardous debris that is contaminated with asbestos Friday. It will take weeks to remove all the material. MassDEP approved the removal setup during an inspection on Wednesday. The WBZ-TV I-Team discovered the pile which is off of Route 1 north at the Route 16 exit and next to a public housing development in Chelsea. CHELSEA (CBS) – Skyeye was overhead as workers in Chelsea set up equipment and ash stations preparing to move a pile of debris containing asbestos out of state. Concerned about the health risks, on Friday the city of Chelsea began testing the homes closest to the hazardous material. On Monday residents got good news, the results showed no traces of asbestos. CHELSEA (CBS) – The I-Team went door to door with the Chelsea Housing Authority as they notified residents and collected dust samples. CHELSEA (CBS) – The man accused of a shooting that injured a grandmother in Chelsea will be held without bail. Eighteen-year-old Jefferson Barrillas was in court on Wednesday, accused of firing a gun along Washington Avenue in Chelsea. Two of the bullets hit a 68-year-old woman who was getting into her car. CHELSEA (CBS) – An 18-year-old Lynn man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a grandmother in Chelsea last Thursday. Police say Jefferson Barrillas is accused of firing a gun on Washington Ave. A 68-year-old woman was shot as she was getting into her car. Police said the suspect was shooting at another car when the woman was hit. The next day, police said Barrillas was operating a rented Zip Car and struck a detective who was trying to stop him. CHELSEA (CBS) — A woman was shot in Chelsea as she was getting into her car when five shots were discharged Thursday afternoon. Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes says the shooting happened just after 1 p.m. in the area of Washington Avenue.
