Thousands of Maricopa households were without power Tuesday morning due to a wide-reaching electrical outage. Electrical District No. 3, which services the Maricopa area, showed numerous outage points around Maricopa. By late afternoon the outage map on the ED3 website said power was mostly restored. The APS outage map also showed about 150 customers without power in the area Tuesday morning, but power has since been restored, according to APS. One person is dead after reportedly crashing while flying using a "paramotor device" Sunday morning between Maricopa and Casa Grande. Maricopa officials say just after 7 a.m., they received a report that a small aircraft had gone down just east of Murphy Road and La Brea Road. That's just southeast of Desert Sunrise High School. When first responders arrived, they found an individual using the device that had an uncontrolled landing. The pilot did not survive the crash, according to officials. A man is in custody after allegedly threatening to kill a woman, chasing her and her kids down a Maricopa street, and then barricading himself in a home for several hours Saturday morning. A missing woman who was found dead near a landfill south of the Valley is believed to have been the victim of a homicide, officials say. Maricopa County Sheriffs Office says 38-year-old Crystal Uptains body was found near a landfill in Mobile, Arizona, near Maricopa, on Dec. 5. Two people were taken to a hospital after being stung by bees multiple times. On Thursday, Maricopa Fire and Medical crews were called to the area of Ventana Lane and Rosalia Drive for reports of multiple people stung by bees. When crews arrived they located about a dozen people who were completing underground fiber cable installation. They had all been stung but were able to get to safety. Thunderbird fire officials say a tree farm caught fire Sunday evening near Maricopa. As of Monday, the fire has burned approximately 40 acres. Officials say the fire began around 8:30 p.m. Sunday near Farrell and Ralston roads near the Ak Chin Indian reservation. A police officer and a suspect were shot amid a police investigation early Wednesday morning in Maricopa. The suspect has since died from his injuries.
