Studies show that humans spend approximately one third of their lives either sleeping or attempting to sleep. So, it makes sense that our bedrooms are our sleep safe havens; filled with comfortable and relaxing products to help us get the best sleep we can! Sleeping eight hours every night can be a challenge as an adult, we're all aware of this! The LED light from our phones before bed, co-sleeping with our children, our children needing us in the middle of the night from their bedrooms, being hungry or thirsty or simply lying in an uncomfortable sleep space! Our family chooses to co-sleep tog ..read more

How to Survive your Toddler's Broken Leg
The Johannessen Family

So, your crazy kid has gone and broken their leg. Whether they've slid down a slide wrong, or bounced on a trampoline. Buckle UP parents. For the next six to eight weeks, you are going to need a BUCKET of patience. Whatever happened, we agree it's a bit shocking arriving at the emergency department for an x-ray, only to confirm yep, it's broken! Brooks (3) broke his leg (non-displaced tibia fracture) one early Sunday morning at the park. How, you ask? He insisted that he should sit on his dad's lap while they went down a big tubular slide. This is a big NO-NO. Children should never sit on an ..read more

Winter is here in Australia! As a family of four, we've found ourselves spending more time indoors to escape the chill in the air, as well as the dreaded cold and flu season. Since writing this blog post, I can say that we definitely did NOT escape this year, we've had a common cold and RSV and it was worse than Covid-19 for us! Our youngest son Parker is nine months old. He is trying his hardest to crawl, but he's not quite there yet. Not for lack of trying, we place him down in our main living area with toys galore, tempting him to crawl! Parker seems to prefer walking, we think he will be ..read more

Tesalate Beach Towel Review

What an absolutely crazy, unprecedented and exhausting two years we have all lived through. The upcoming Christmas summer holidays could not come quick enough, and I hope every family gets the chance to have a well-deserved break! We love to spend our free time outdoors where possible, in particular, the beach! We live in hot and humid Queensland, and are lucky to live fairly close to some of the world's most amazing beaches. Our favourite beach is Coolangatta, and we love nothing more then spending the day swimming, eating, building sand castles, exploring for crabs and resting in the warm s ..read more

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Like many others around the world, it's our absolute favourite time of the year. In the lead up to each Christmas, I like to make something ~Christmassy~, but it has to be: - Easy (so my children can be involved) - Simple (who has time to make complicated baked goods, at this time of year?) - Affordable (it's all for fun, after all) - Preferably not baked (this way it's a bit safer for children to get involved) Today, I'll show you how to make easy and adorable Rudolph the Reindeer cookies! These are perfect for when you're time poor, on a budget a ..read more

Why I Hid My Pregnancy for 9 Months

TRIGGER WARNING When I fell pregnant with my first child Brooks in October 2018, I was so (publicly) ill with Hyperemesis Gravidarum that Samuel and I ended up telling our friends/family/work/social media that I was expecting quite early on. And boy do I mean early, probably at nine or 10 weeks pregnant. At the time, this suited me fine. I wanted to shout from the rooftops that my dream of becoming a mother was coming true! Although I was quite sick spending time in and out of hospital for dehydration, I would tell anyone who would listen that I was finally pregnant! As most new mothers would ..read more

See our guide below showing you how to create simple, fun and affordable sensory play for your toddler! Sensory play is a great way to get kids off their screens, and allows them to use their eyes, noses, ears, hands, and imaginations! Many parents find sensory play overwhelming, messy, expensive and elaborate. I'm a member of several sensory play groups on Facebook, and often see parents vent their frustrations on why they believe sensory play is too hard/too expensive/too time-consuming to set up. I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be! Sensory play, at it's core, is simple, fun, afford ..read more

Easter is around the corner, so we thought we'd put together a little guide on how we've created a simple, fun and affordable Easter Box for our toddler son, Brooks! In our household, we like to celebrate holidays by decorating the house, creating themed sensory bins and also gifting Brooks a holiday-themed box. You may remember our blog post late last year on how to make a Christmas Eve Toddler Box, and that was a hit with him! What is an Easter Box? An Easter Box is essentially a box or basket that you gift your child at the beginning of the four day Easter break (Good Friday, Easter Saturda ..read more

Easter Holidays are around the corner! It's nice to have a little Easter break, even if it is only four days for some of us (Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Sunday)! After a very unprecedented year last year, we are all looking forward to relaxing with family and friends and exploring the outdoors. Easter = school holidays! And boy, do parents run out of fun and stimulating things to do quickly over this break. I hear it all the time! We all want our kids to turn off their controllers and phones and hop outside and play! The ,Australian Government recommends children ge ..read more
