Every high school seems to have one kid who everyone knows: the student admired by peers and respected by teachers.
At Northeast High School in Oakland Park, it’s Talon Frazier. He does the morning announcements with an anchorman’s voice, and he’s in seven clubs and programs, so there isn’t much that Talon doesn’t do.
“I’m currently ascending in a Cessna 172,” Talon says as he practices in one of his school’s flight simulators.

A man said he was sitting in his car Sunday in Oakland Park when strong winds picked it up, flipped it upside down, and then it landed on the roof of another vehicle on his driveway.
“I was in the car, bro,” he’s saying in disbelief while filming the aftermath.
Just before, he’s filming while still inside his flipped car. He eventually lets himself out.
A storm cell unleashed four tornados in South Florida over the weekend, forecasters with the National Weather Service confirmed. One of them tore through the area of Northeast 34th Court near Third Avenue.

A South Florida man is facing charges after police said he posed as an attorney in a scheme that bilked an elderly man out of thousands of dollars.
Manuel Alfonso Lopez, 36, was arrested earlier this month on charges that include grand theft and organized scheme to defraud, Miami-Dade Police officials said Thursday.

According to police, Lopez had called the 75-year-old victim back in December claiming to be an attorney and told him his grandson had been involved in a traffic accident.

A suspect was shot and killed during a confrontation with deputies in Oakland Park Wednesday afternoon, officials said
The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. in the 800 block of E. Prospect Road.
Aerial footage showed at least a couple dozen law enforcement officers at the scene. Part of a parking lot was closed off by yellow crime scene tape and what appeared to be a body was lying on the ground next to a BMW SUV that had apparent bullet holes in the windshield.

Three suspects are facing charges in connection with an attempted robbery turned shooting near a popular rapper’s video shoot in Oakland Park that left a man dead back in September, authorities said.
Paul Olivier and Daequan Griffin, both 22, and a 17-year-old suspect are facing first-degree murder charges in the Sept. 14 shooting, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said Thursday.

A dog has found her forever home after she was left terrified and hungry inside a gated dumpster in Oakland Park Sunday afternoon.
“We saved the life of that dog,” said Hernando Delgado, who helped rescue the dog. “I don’t know how these people can throw a dog in the garbage and they don’t feel anything.”
The incident happened shortly before 12 p.m., on Monday, when police received a call about a dog left in a dumpster outside La Granja restaurant located at 5701 North University Drive in Tamarac.

The death of a 10-month-old baby in South Florida is serving as yet another reminder to keep prescriptions out of the reach of children.
Tibina Louissant, 53, is now facing an aggravated manslaughter charge after her grandson Josiah Tobias Fenelus died in her care.
An autopsy revealed that the baby, who had no known medical problems, died from a lethal concentration of the powerful antihistamine cyproheptadine in his body.
Toxicology tests determined that items found in Louissant’s home, including two baby bottles, tested positive for cyproheptadine.

An early-morning crash turned fatal in Oakland Park on Sunday.
The driver reportedly died in the crash that happened near an exit ramp off of I-95 north and west Oakland Boulevard.
Several emergency vehicles could be spotted in the area and cameras caught a white car smashed in, after a palm tree fell on top of it — crushing it.
Meanwhile, a yellow tarp could be seen hanging over the driver’s side. Investigators say this was a single-vehicle crash.
