(HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the City of Meriden today celebrated the successful launch of “Making Meriden Green,” a first-of-its-kind municipal food scrap co-collection pilot program that the city kicked off last month. The pilot, funded through a $40,000 DEEP Save Money and Reduce Trash (SMART) grant, began in early February and has already collected 5,600 pounds (2.5 tons) of food scrap from participating households. Influenza (flu) vaccine is now available through the Meriden Department of Health and Human Services.   A flu clinic for Meriden seniors will be held on Wednesday, September 29, from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Meriden Senior Center, 22 West Main Street. Parking is on Hanover Street (rear of building).
