Authorities are investigating the events that led up to the death of a baby in Covina early Sunday morning.  According to the Covina Police Department, officers responded to reports of an infant who was not breathing at an apartment in the 1100 block of North Conwell Street around 6 a.m. Arriving L.A. County Fire Department paramedics found an unresponsive child at the home. CPR and life-saving measures were performed on the 2-month-old girl, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.  The child was being watched by a babysitter while their mother was out of state, police said.  ..read more

Actor and comedian Dane Cook headlined the opening night show of The Laugh Factory’s newest location in Covina to support the Writers Guild of America on Wednesday. All proceeds from the sold-out show were donated to the WGA and the Entertainment Community Fund, with Wednesday marking 50 days since WGA members began striking. Students and faculty at Covina High School were evacuated Monday due to a threat, officials said. A spokesperson for the Covina-Valley Unified School District told KTLA that someone phoned in a threat against the school late in the morning. An early morning head-on crash in Covina left six people injured, officials said. Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, of Rancho Cucamonga, was buried on Saturday at Forest Lawn Covina Hills. Merola, who was killed in a bombing in Afghanistan last month, is the third and final Marine from Southern California to be laid to rest. Previous remembrances were held for Lance Cpl.
