Authorities are investigating the events that led up to the death of a baby in Covina early Sunday morning.  According to the Covina Police Department, officers responded to reports of an infant who was not breathing at an apartment in the 1100 block of North Conwell Street around 6 a.m. Arriving L.A. County Fire Department paramedics found an unresponsive child at the home. Actor and comedian Dane Cook headlined the opening night show of The Laugh Factory’s newest location in Covina to support the Writers Guild of America on Wednesday. An early morning head-on crash in Covina left six people injured, officials said. The crash near Barranca Avenue and Cypress Street was reported at about 1:30 a.m., when one vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with another car headed the other direction, the Covina Police Department said in a news release. A man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a person who tried to intervene while the suspect was allegedly breaking into a car in Covina, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said. Authorities are searching for a man who shot and killed one person in a group of neighbors who had confronted him after seeing him steal from a vehicle in Covina late Tuesday night, police said. Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, of Rancho Cucamonga, was buried on Saturday at Forest Lawn Covina Hills. Merola, who was killed in a bombing in Afghanistan last month, is the third and final Marine from Southern California to be laid to rest. Previous remembrances were held for Lance Cpl.
