LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A Montebello man has been sentenced to more than 33 years in prison after prosecutors say gave fentanyl to a woman who died of a fatal overdose. Edwin Oliva, 30, was sentenced Friday to 400 months in federal prison. He had pleaded guilty back in September to one count each of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and possession with intent to distribute heroin. At least two students have been either removed from campus or taken into custody in Santa Monica and Buena Park, respectively, according to police. MONTEBELLO (CBSLA) – Students are expected to return to in-person learning at a Montebello high school after a rodent infestation delayed the start date. In August, teachers at Schurr High School said there were rodents in classrooms, which stalled their chances to get the campus ready for the first day of in-person learning. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A former Montebello police officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal charge of bribing a drug trafficker. Rudolph Petersen, 34, pleaded guilty to a single-count information charging him with bribery, according to the Department of Justice. Petersen, who served as a Montebello police officer for nearly four years, solicited and received several cash bribes from a gang member and drug trafficker, according to his plea agreement. MONTEBELLO (CBSLA) – Three people were injured Saturday when a man crashed a stolen car into the back of a Montebello bus. Michael Chee, a spokesman for the City of Montebello said the crash occurred at Whittier Boulevard and Vail Avenue around 8 a.m. The man driving the stolen vehicle attempted to flee the scene, according to Chee, though he was quickly caught by Montebello Police Officers. (CBSLA) The collision occurred sometime around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Beverly Boulevard. MONTEBELLO (CBSLA) — A semi-truck overturned on the 60 Freeway in Montebello Monday night after a collision with a minivan. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 9:25 p.m. on the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Garfield Avenue, causing the truck to overturn and block at least three lanes of the highway. Fire crews successfully extracted the driver from the semi-truck more than an hour after the crash.
