Judges 9 A refuge is the person or place that we run to when we need protection, comfort, advice, or help. Though God is the only adequate refuge, because we cannot see Him or hear His voice audibly, we often go to the people and places we can see and talk to. Then, a king is the one that we cede all our power to, the one we trust with our lives, the one we submit to. God alone is worthy of such power or faith. But the people of Shechem repeatedly took refuge in their houses of Baal, yet their god was not able to protect them. Their worship of foreign gods along with their desire to make a man ..read more

Asking for Signs: Gideon
LivethruJesus

Judges 6 Gideon was the fifth judge for Israel and when the angel of the Lord came to him he looked like an ordinary man, so there was no way to know whether he was a messenger from God or had evil intentions and was trying to mislead Gideon. The messenger could have been disguising himself as a man of God but instead was a man of deception. So, Gideon tested the spirit to see if it was from God or not. We too must test the spirits. So, first we will learn about God calling Gideon and then how and when we should test the spirits. Free Bible study, blog posts, and links at LivethruJesus.com Fre ..read more

Joshua 23-24 Just before Joshua dies, he presents the people with a choice. They can either serve the Lord in their new land or they cannot. If they do, then they will enjoy it forever. Joshua 20-22 Be careful about making presumptions. How deep is your desire for God and His people? Are you willing to defend Him? When do we confront other people about their sin and when do we keep our mouths shut? Who do we confront and how do we do it in the right way? The Israelites almost went to war with the eastern tribes because they thought they had done something against God. But after confronting them, they realized these tribes did what they did because they loved God and wanted to remain close to Him and HIs people. They were both zealous for their God and all that passion almost ..read more

The Promised Land; A Heavenly Country
LivethruJesus

Joshua 18-19 God promised Abraham's descendants the land of Israel and almost 500 years later, they received it. Abraham knew he would never see this promise come to fruition. God would fulfill it for his descendants instead. So, Abraham looked towards a more permanent promised land. This was a heavenly country, a city built by God Himself. This promise, too, is handed down to generations and we are the ones who will inherit this land. Our home there is being prepared by Jesus Himself. Like Abraham, all we need to do to receive this land is step out in faith. If we believe in the One who calls ..read more
