A fire seen throughout the Coachella Valley broke out about 1 pm near the 10 Freeway in Cathedral City on Friday. The fire was reported in the trees near railroad tracks close to Date Palm Drive, according to the Desert Sun. Desert Ice Castle, the Coachella Valley’s only ice skating rink, is permanently closing its doors. An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death in a car that crashed into a tree in Cathedral City this weekend. Deputies were called about shots fired in the area of McCallum Way and Avenida Juarez about 7:45 pm on Saturday, according to the Desert Sun. A short time later, there was a crash one block to the west at McCallum and Avenida Alvera. A victim was found at the crash site suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Cathedral City police announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with a pair of shootings on March 23 which left one man dead and an 11-year-old girl seriously injured. Josue Casas, 23, and Ethan Bravo, 19 have been taken into custody, reports the Desert Sun. Authorities are still searching for Gabriel Hernandez, 22, and Joel Casas, 18. Officials say that Hernandez is the suspected gunman. Bravo was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police believe the Casas brothers aided Hernandez in the shootings and afterward. A man is dead and a juvenile injured after a shooting in Cathedral City Monday night. Deputies arrived to the area of Avenida La Vista and Tortuga Road to find a man and a juvenile with gunshot wounds about 6:44 pm, according to KESQ. Cathedral City will likely consider banning the sale fireworks during Wednesday night’s city council meeting. According to the Desert Sun, fireworks have been a problem within the city for several years, and the council is expected to vote on banning the sale of all fireworks, including those deemed “safe and sane.” If passed, Cathedral City would join Indian Wells, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and the unincorporated areas of Riverside County in not allowing firework sales. A suspect connected to a deadly shooting that happened outside of Showgirls strip club in Cathedral City was arrested in Mexico. Mexican officials arrested Guillermo Cintora Gomez in the city of Ixtlán de los Hervores in the Mexican state of Michoacan, according to KESQ. Fire crews and bomb squad personnel were called to a Cathedral City residence on Thursday after a man alerted authorities that he had 2 military explosives that he wanted to turn them in. Teams responded to the home on Ventura Drive about 10:25 am, according to KESQ. Nobody was injured and the explosives were removed safely.
