HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A Hobbs man was sentenced to federal prison for cyberstalking his girlfriend and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition that he used to shoot and murder her in 2022.  Guadalupe Antonio Navarrete, 37, was sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by six years of supervised release. According to court documents, on Nov. 18, 2022, deputies from the Lea County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Navarrete’s residence in Hobbs following a report of an unwanted subject on the premises. HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A grand jury on Thursday found a Hobbs man guilty of killing his pregnant girlfriend and shooting the woman's two-year-old daughter in September 2021. Steven Samreth was found guilty of first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in great bodily harm and child abuse not resulting in great bodily harm. Officials said Samreth shot his girlfriend twice, killing her, with two small children in the home. One of the children was found with a gunshot wound to the face but was still conscious and alert. HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – The Hobbs Police Department says a student was stabbed at Hobbs Freshman High School. Officers responded to the school just before 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Socorro police searching for men accused of impersonating police and robbing home They say a fight broke out in the boy's locker room and that during the fight, one of the juveniles was stabbed. HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A man with a criminal record dating back to 2003 for drug and driving offenses was arrested after driving right through a DWI checkpoint back in December. New Mexico State Police were conducting a DWI checkpoint outside of Hobbs and a police report states the driver of a truck, later identified as Michael Pineda, refused to stop. HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A 28-year-old man from Hobbs was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Zachary Ray Gonzales pleaded guilty in federal court to the charge on July 10. According to court records, on March 19, 2022, deputies from the Lea County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Gonzales for an arrest warrant for first-degree murder. Camacho-Rosas was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger west on Nadine Rd. near the Texas state line when his truck left the road and rolled. Camacho-Rosas was ejected. HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) –  A Hobbs couple was arrested for abusing a one-year-old child in their care, according to court documents. Law enforcement started investigating after the child's mother, 21-year-old Briana Hernandez, brought her son to the hospital on Jan. 3. Court documents state that the child had multiple injuries, including bruises on his body, multiple broken bones, fractured ribs and permanent severe brain damage.
