The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces the promotion of Cartersville resident James Gordon to Technical Leader of the Toxicology Section of the Crime Lab at GBI Headquarters. Gordon will be responsible for training scientist trainees and continuing to train current scientists to keep them up to date with toxicology methodologies and best practices. Numerous bullets damaged two homes and three vehicles on Jenny Lane near Cartersville before 12:41 a.m. on Wednesday. Deputies reportedly located numerous shell casings on the roadway in front of the residences. One resident stated she thought she heard someone knocking on the windows of her house. She said that once she got to looking around, she noticed that somebody had shot her home multiple times. Arrests Made in Lee Street Shooting

Cartersville Police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrested two individuals on Wednesday for their involvement in a shooting that occurred the day before in the area of Lee Street. Arrested were 34-year-old Ronald Michelle Osburn Junior of Cartersville and 23-year-old MaKayla Ann Tanner of Adairsville. Osburn received a charge of aggravated assault involving the use of a firearm, and Tanner got a charge of hindering the apprehension of a criminal. At approximately 9:48 P.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the Cartersville Police Department responded to the report of gunshots in the area of Lee and Walker Streets, Cartersville, Georgia. Arriving Officers located spent shell casings from different caliber firearms but did not locate anyone shot. Cartersville Police Officers were called to Lee Street Saturday at midnight.  According to Cartersville Police reports, the resident of 134 Lee Street stated that her husband had been shot and they needed an ambulance.  The woman called back a short time later and said no help was needed.  Police arrived on scene to find the woman panicked and visibly shaken.  She said her son had shot her husband, and both had left the house.   The woman said her husband had been arguing with her, and her son came out of his bedroom during the argument.  She added that the husban ..read more

In an official statement from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office — “Alexander Smart did pass away while in custody at the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center on Thursday, April 16, 2024. According to reports, on Thursday, April 18th at 7:18 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 61 south of Aubrey Road.  The initial investigation revealed that a silver 2001 Toyota 4Runner was traveling south on the Highway in the right lane.
