Quilts of Valor presented to veterans during annual Quilt Show

A Quilt of Valor is a handmade quilt that is awarded to a service member or veteran that has been touched by war.  The quilt is a thank you for their service and sacrifice in serving our nation.  Three quilts were given to local veterans at this years quilt show.  The quilts were presented by Vita Weehunt, owner of Quilters Hide Out in Early.  Quilters Hide Out is the local shop representing the Quilt of Valor Foundation.  The quilts are made by members of the Brownwood Quilters Guild as well as other local quilters and are a labor of love.&nb ..read more

The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning: On Sunday, April 28 at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Bluffview Drive regarding a report of a shooting. Several 911 callers reported a large group of people fighting and shooting at one another. Brownwood Police officers were assisted by officers with the Early Police Department as well as the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. The 2024 scholarship recipients include Cecelia Fritze, Colton Hopkins, Chloe Jones, Sterling Richmond, and Kayton Shahan.  The CTFC scholarship committee selects recipients based on honors, awards, community service, work experience, extracurricular activities, and an essay. I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have worked for some football coaches who were terribly successful. In fact, in my career, I’ve worked with three who have won State Championships, some of them multiple. Gordon Wood won nine, seven at Brownwood and two at Stanford. The Brownwood Community Library is hosting its second annual “Reading for the Roses – a Kentucky Derby Party” this Saturday, May 4.  The event will be held at the Brownwood Coliseum at 3:00 p.m., complete with a southern buffet, jazz band, and big-screen televisions to watch the 150th annual Kentucky Derby horse race, known as “the most exciting two-minutes in sports!’ The Party will also feature a raffle, live and silent auctions, and contests for Best Hat and Best Bow Tie.  (Derby attire is optional.)
