Burnout and Opportunities.
It’s been some time since my last post and it has also been some time since I’ve worked on my board game. There are several reasons behind this, but I’m now back at a stage where I want to get back to the work I was doing a month ago. Since my last post I’ve embarked on another adventure, which is to convert an old Ford Minibus into a camper-van, this has been a huge amount of fun, but very time consuming, you can check out the progress here. With the chaos that is lockdown and furlough, it’s all been a bit crazy and maintaining motivation has been a real struggle.

Forums and Mechanisms.
I took a big step this week with F.I.G.S. I published a forum post on Board Game Geek to put my idea into the world to get some feedback on it. You can check out the forum here. It’s always a little scary putting your ideas out there with the constant fear that someone is going to steal your ideas. Design and Decisions.
So after several weeks of thinking, talking making copious amounts of notes I decided to bite the bullet and make my first board game prototype. In the current lockdown it didn’t make sense to me to make a physical prototype as I wouldn’t be able to get anyone to play, so I explored online ways of doing it. I had already used several platforms to play board games online, Tabletop Simulator on Steam and Tabletopia. I had played around with Tabletopia already, so I went with that. But I realised that I had to create the components first. So this led me to my first hurdle wh ..read more

Brainstorms and Distractions.
Whilst my first blog post was only a few days ago, it spoke of the first two weeks of my journey into Board Game design. I’ve now complete my first four weeks of the process and seem to have not gotten much further. But there are plenty of reasons why. I want to outline what I’ve managed to achieve so far as well as give some little tips about what I’ve found helpful.
Over the past two weeks I’ve put a huge amount of time in what I will call infrastructure. Things that I should do at some point but will be much more helpful later down the line. The biggest idea wa ..read more

Inspiration and Brainstorms.
My journey into creating a board game started as an idealistic dream some time ago, but in terms of actually doing something about that dream, it started on the 1st April 2020. We are in lockdown due to COVID-19 and I am currently furloughed from my job as a Maths teacher. So I decided to use this time to better myself and if it ended up being more than just a project then that would be amazing.
So, I set out to become a board game designer. Sounds cool, fun and can’t be that difficult. Well, there was my first hurdle to overcome. Its a very small industry and ther ..read more
