The OASG
by TheOASG Staff
2w ago
Show Notes 0:00: Justin and Helen take time to discuss the life and death of Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. Justin reflects on growing up with Dragon Ball as one of his gateway shows, then jumping into the manga later on in life, and his personal experience with the franchise (which might have involved mimicking Goku and Krillin training under Master Roshi, somehow). The two hosts then get into how much Toriyama has inspired millions, either knowingly or unknowingly, due to his works — this also includes designing the characters for Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest — and his ..read more

The White Cat’s Revenge As Plotted from the Dragon King’s Lap Volume 4 Review
The OASG
by Justin

The trouble with English releases that do catch up with the Japanese is the wait time since remembering certain moments after all this time is tough. That said, since this was alluded in the afterword by the artist Aki, it also must’ve taken a bit of time for volume 4 of The White Cat’s Revenge to come out in Japan. It’s why it’s somewhat welcomed that there was a quick recap of Ruri’s time in another world before going back to current events as the nation of dragons preps for war against Nadasha. I say somewhat since as someone who’s read the source material, it surprisingly didn’t take long ..read more

Cat + Gamer Volume 3 Review
The OASG
by Justin

In the first couple chapters of Cat + Gamer, an extremely relatable experience occurs — finding time to engage in a hobby. Riko buys an anticipated game but as an adult, she can only play it so many hours of the day. In order to give said game the attention it deserves, she plots out an advanced gaming schedule. She adjusts some basic things (sleep, having instant food instead) while factoring in daily life, work, and then gaming time. It’s something that totally made me think about my own work-life balance. The only difference is Riko has a cat she needs to care for, and it cares not for her ..read more

This somehow got into video game playing and why Justin won’t play games other than Fire Emblem. Pandemic News 8:55: One of the longest running anime conventions won’t be happening this year it seems. A-Kon announced they’re postponing this year’s convention due to many factors, which includes the effects of COVID-19 causing unexpected challenges along A-Kon’s unique challenges in running it in Texas. News 10:53: After a lengthy hiatus ..read more

May I Ask for One Final Thing? Volume 1 Review
The OASG
by Justin

In case you were not aware, while AlphaPolis has titles on their manga app, they also have been releasing a number of their titles digitally only on Amazon. The title I’m taking about today is based off a light novel, and it’s one of the better series you can read right now. I mean, it’s based off the numerous villainess tropes, which means you’ll see instead of a meek, sheltered noble a young, ice-cold lady knocking out her enemies with her fists and generally enjoying punching the living lights out of slave traders rather than someone timidly accepting that they must… …Wait a minute, this ..read more

Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 1: Daughter of a Soldier Volume 1 Review
The OASG
by Justin
1M ago
When J-Novel Club made their announcement about producing more audiobooks of their most popular light novels at Anime NYC 2022, my first thought was, “Ok, Bookworm when then?” A few conventions and livestreams later, they finally announced production of Miya Kazuki’s Ascendance of a Bookworm in audiobook form at Anime Expo 2023, and part 1 is now out. As someone who is reading this series in print (Part 5, Volume 1 is the latest release), essentially going back to more “quaint” times makes approaching the audiobook slightly difficult. And unlike an anime, which can’t keep everything from the ..read more

Show Notes 0:00: Justin and Helen talk about what they’ve been up to over the past two weeks on Super Bowl Sunday! (The Superb Owl talk comes much later though, which is very brief). You’ll note a certain someone attempting to talk about their backlog (and Baby Bear’s Bakery) while one person is talking about Katsucon preparations. You can likely figure out who’s talking about who from that! News 7:36: After much time, Funimation is finally going to cease its app service April 2. Justin and Helen talk about how long it’s taken to do this, their (lack of) optimism of shows on Funimation going ..read more

Girl Meets Rock Chapters 1-8 Review
The OASG
by Justin

If there’s one thing you can count on in manga, it’s stories about youth looking to break out of their shells by joining the light music club. Ok, there’s many types of manga out there so Girl Meets Rock setting it up with that as its main premise isn’t bad. This means it’ll have to either provide a new twist or execute some well-worn ideas that usually come up with this theme better than others. So far, I think it’s doing a good job of making things interesting as we follow Hatono, a girl who blows all her spending money on a guitar as she aims to join her school’s light music club. Hatono’s ..read more
