Fancy mice are becoming increasingly popular in the pet industry.  These adorable little creatures capture their owner's hearts with their inquisitive and intelligent natures.  They spend hours exploring every detail of their cage, nest building, interacting with the other members of their group and, of course, eating.   It is an important part of pet ownership to get the right diet for your furry friend.  But unlike dogs and cats, mice are still a very niche pet and finding information on their care needs can be difficult.  Specific mouse products are even harder t ..read more

The country is in lockdown, the groomers are closed and the vets are only seeing emergencies, but your cat’s claws are getting longer by the day!  They are scratching up your furniture, getting caught in the carpets and have even drawn blood on your skin.  So what do you do about it?  If you’ve landed on this post, I’m guessing you’re already considering trimming your cat’s claws at home, so I’m here to give you a few tips to help that claw-clipping experience go as smoothly as possible. You've probably stumbled across this article because your vet has advised you to start brushing your pet's teeth.  Or maybe you're just curious about dental health in dogs and cats.  If you are, good for you!  Dental care is a huge passion of mine.  Anyone who has ever had a toothache will know the pain and frustration that does not improve no matter what you do.  We brush our teeth twice a day, yet still sometimes develop oral pain that dentists are able to treat.  Now think about your pets - they cannot brush their own teeth.  They still get a toothache ..read more

Extending the life of your feeder crickets

For reptile owners, keeping crickets is a vital part of the feeding regimen.  Unfortunately for a lot of people, this proves more difficult than first thought.  The first time I successfully kept my crickets alive for longer than a week, I got quite attached to the jumpy little creatures.  I loved watching them munch away on the pieces of carrot or squash that I offered them, or slurp on the bug balls I would chuck in every few days.  I’ve upped my game since those early days, and now have three stacker boxes full of silent crickets in my office, breeding away or waiting ..read more

VioVet haul: mouse edition

With a much bigger mouse cage, I was seriously lacking on toys.  So I got myself back on the internet and mentally prepared myself to spend even more money on these five little rodents (they’re totally worth it though). I’d used VioVet once in the past to order mouse kibble, but I’d never shopped around until now.  They have a surprising amount of rodent accessories as well as dog, cat and horse products.  And as a little bonus, it is super cheap and their selection is much greater than some of the more popular pet websites. After spending roughly an hour browsing through th ..read more

Last week I decided to upgrade my mouse cage from the Skyline Fun Area Leon cage to the Savic Zeno 3 Empire.  This new cage is actually a rat cage and it is huge, much to my boyfriend’s dismay.  I will admit, when I placed the order I didn’t quite appreciate just how big it was going to be and we will have to redesign our office in the near future to find a suitable place to put it, but seeing the mice enjoying their new space is so worth it! I took a risk when ordering this cage.  Firstly, the reviews of the cage were not great, with the general consensus being that it is fl ..read more

Mice as pets: what you need to know

Fancy mice are hugely underrated pets! They each have their own quirks and personalities and are very intelligent little creatures. I keep a group of five female mice in a newly built mouse skyscraper (go big or go home, right?), so let's take a look at their personalities and list a few things I've learned from my time with these fascinating little animals. Clover, Sage and Lavender are my newest mice. They are all roughly 14 weeks old and incredibly friendly. Clover seems to be the brains of the group and took to nest building and foraging for food straight away. Sage and Lavender can be s ..read more
