Many years ago, my husband and I attended an Indian festival. It was an event to showcase the culture, food, art and music of India. As it happens, my husband’s boss and his family, who are originally from India, also went to this event. Newly married, I wanted to make a good impression, so when they suggested we share a meal together, I excitedly said “yes.” I have never tolerated spicy food well, so I ordered the mild curry. After the first bite, sweat beads starting forming on my upper lip. After the third bite, my face was red, and I was glancing around the room for a fire extinguisher. No ..read more

Teacher Skyler Spaur started a recent high school class session by reading a story about a family in India out loud to a student, pausing often to ask him to summarize what was happening and offer clarification. With the story finished, the teacher left that student to work independently and checked in with another taking a design class. He wanted to make sure the student’s laptop could handle the assignments and encouraged her to use past artwork to get through the initial basic skills assignments. Next, Spaur talked with a student taking a public speaking class, offering to brainstorm speech ..read more

Firefighter Lanie Osborne made the commute from Grand Junction to Boulder County to spend Saturday honing skills and creating connections with other women in the industry. Despite the four-hour trip – and the cold, rainy weather – Osborne thought it was well worth the effort. “The idea of being able to train with women was really cool,” Osborne said. “I was the only female in my fire academy. Knowing that you’re not the only one is nice. There are other people you can lean on and ask for advice.” Osborne was one of around 75 firefighters who attended Saturday’s “Women in the Fire Service Skill ..read more

By Noah Bierman, Los Angeles Times WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump’s tough week showed as well as any to date why he is facing a new and unprecedented reality as a presidential candidate — as he ping-ponged among a dizzying array of court appearances, judicial rulings, competing allegations and subsequent grievances. By Thursday, he was complaining about the overlap in his busy legal schedule, railing that Judge Juan M. Merchan, who is presiding over his hush-money case in New York, wouldn’t let him leave that trial to attend a Supreme Court hearing in Washington, D.C ..read more
