MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA) — Police sought the public’s help Thursday to find a 34-year-old woman who went missing last month in Monterey Park.

Shirley Duong was last seen on Oct. 25 by her sister. Duong told her sister she was going to meet a friend and never returned home. Her family found her car parked in front of their former home in Los Angeles.
Duong is described as an Asian-American woman who is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 105 pounds.

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA) – For nearly a century now the Theodore Roosevelt High School Rough Riders and the Garfield High School Bulldogs have faced off in the East LA Classic.
This year’s matchup was the 96th between the two teams. The East LA Classic is such a monumental occasion for these two schools, and the neighborhoods that surround them, that the games have to be held at East LA College to fit the crowds.

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA) – One person was killed and a second injured when a car slammed into a building in Monterey Park early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred in the area of North Atlantic Boulevard and West Garvey Avenue just after midnight.
The car carrying two people overturned and careened into a building which houses a spa, which was closed at the time. One person died at the scene, Monterey Park police said. The victim was not identified. A second person was rushed to a hospital with unknown injuries.

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA) – Officials at the Monterey Police Department are seeking public assistance in locating a male suspect wanted for alleged indecent exposure.
According to a bulletin released by the department, there have been two incidents, one on June 1 at approximately 3:25 p.m. and another on June 31 around 4:46 p.m., both in the area of Kempton Avenue and Mancha Way, north of the Edison Trail.
Police say the male suspect appears to between 40 or 50-years-old, have a thin build and drive a dark gray or black Dodge Ram pickup truck.

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA) — LA County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward on Friday for information leading to the arrest of whoever killed Gerald “Myles” Purdue on Mt. Baldy last month.

Purdue, 63, of San Bernardino, was found shot to death at Mile Marker 3.09 Mount Baldy Road, North of Claremont, just before 2 p.m. on March 25. He is survived by an adult son and daughter who do not live in the area.
Two people who had stopped in the same turnout found the body in a culvert less than 60 yards from where Purdue’s car was parked.

PASADENA (CBSLA) — A man and two women were arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in Pasadena, Los Angeles and Monterey Park where they allegedly posed as construction workers to gain access to victims’ homes, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspects were identified as 24-year-old Bobby Lucci, 25-year-old Jessica Frank and 21-year-old Paris Frank — all of New Jersey.
According to the Pasadena Police Department, officers April 5 responded to a home in the 100 block of South San Rafael Avenue for reports of a residential burglary.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting was reported at 6:28 p.m. in the 500 block of West Garvey Avenue.
Monterey police responded to a shooting call to find a man and woman with multiple gunshot wounds. Both died at the scene. Their names were not immediately released. The sheriff’s department noted that both victims were Asians.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Several local hotels are opening as temporary homes for the homeless population, and it has led to protests in the area.
“I think right now they live here and that’s good for them, but after 90 days they should move out of the city,” said Maria Ling.
Among the locations are Motel 6 in Rosemead and Garvey Inn and Lincoln Plaza Hotel in Monterey Park.
All this is thanks to Project Roomkey, an effort put together by state, county and city officials to help prevent the spread of coronavirus by securing hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness.
