John Stossel: Capitalism versus racism
Whittier Daily News
by John Stossel

Capitalism and racism go together? I hear it all the time. “Racism is intricately linked to capitalism,” says famous Marxist Angela Davis. “It’s a mistake to assume that we can combat racism by leaving capitalism in place.” “Anti-racist” activist Ibram X. Kendi says, “In order to truly be anti-racist, you also have to truly be anti-capitalist.” This is just silly. In my new video, Swedish historian Johan Norberg explains how free markets discourage racism. Capitalists make a profit by serving their customers. The more customers they please, the more money they might make. It hurts the bottom l ..read more

ANAHEIM — In the wake another mediocre offensive performance in the Angels’ fifth straight loss, Manager Ron Washington promised that they were doing the work that was bound to turn their fortune eventually. It happened a day later. The Angels got production from throughout the lineup – including a first-inning home run from leadoff man Mike Trout – in a 7-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. “I hope what we did tonight is something that we can just grow on,” Washington said. “It’s just a matter of time and we did it tonight off of a pretty good pitcher (Grayson Rodriguez). Ducks ‘in a good spot’ to compete for a playoff spot next season
Whittier Daily News
by Andrew Knoll

IRVINE — For the Ducks, it was another season of pain, both literal and figurative, as an injury-marred campaign crashed short of the postseason landing strip yet again. But it was also a period of growth, both personal and collective. Though they finished just a tick better than last year’s NHL-worst total of 58 points, new leadership and a youth movement on the roster set a course toward snapping a string of six consecutive non-playoff seasons. “You could throw wins and everything out the window, I think, from the eye test, our team was much more competitive. Our work ethic and our structure ..read more

Whittier Daily News

WASHINGTON — If a ball has ever left an exit wound in a stadium, Nationals Park was nearly the first. Shohei Ohtani lined a hanging slider from reliever Matt Barnes into the upper deck in right field for a solo home run in the eighth inning on Tuesday night. It was the last run in the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. But it was certainly the most memorable. “It looked like a cruise missile,” James Outman said. “That was absurd. That was just absurd.” Ohtani’s missile had an exit velocity of 118.7 mph – the hardest-hit ball in the majors this season, the hardest ball of his c ..read more

LOS ANGELES — Word began to filter through the hallways of Crypto.com Arena late Tuesday afternoon. Kawhi Leonard would be warming up in advance of Game 2 of the Clippers’ first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks. Within minutes, cell phones clicked and cameras rolled, all capturing footage of the six-time All-Star forward as he prepared for his first postseason game.
