TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Fans of drag racing are coming out of the woodwork to pitch in and help bring the sport back to the Southern Tier. A mostly volunteer effort is underway to resurrect Skiview Drags in Tioga Center, albeit with a new spelling, note the i in place of the y. The original Skyview Drags only operated for 12 years, closing abruptly in 2018, and forcing local drag racing enthusiasts to drive to Syracuse or beyond to participate in the sport. Friday's Spring Dance Concert is a date many circle on the calendar for its combination of artistry, power and excitement. The show creates a modern-day storyline for the hit characters Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia. However, it has a unique twist. The Golden Girls are all played by men. CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - A local gymnast is representing Greater Binghamton at a national competition. Chaz Gerdus is a senior at Chenango Valley High School. He has been doing gymnastics for the last 13 years, competing for 8. On Sunday, Gerdus will be traveling to Cleveland to compete in the Eastern National Championships, the highest level of competition for his age group. (WIVT/WBGH) - 80 students from Broome-Tioga BOCES left for a statewide skills competition yesterday and are returning home tomorrow. Skills USA is a national workforce development organization, that hosts student competitions in leadership and a variety of skilled trades from 3D animation to welding. Today, BOCES students faced off against other New York high schoolers in the state level competition. United Way launches its annual Full Plate Project

VESTAL, NY (WIVT/WBGH) - The United Way has kicked off its annual campaign to combat hunger. The United Way of Broome County's Full Plate Project raises awareness and funds for local organizations that feed the hungry. United Way says over the last two years, the Full Plate Project has awarded over $237,000 to local food banks, pantries and community meal providers. Last year alone, the organization's 24/7 help hotline took over 16,000 food related calls, which was an 8% increase from the year before. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Another fire that started in what was supposed to be a vacant house in downtown Binghamton has led to the demolition of two dilapidated structures on Henry Street. Fire crews were called shortly before 2:15 a.m. for a blaze that began at 124 Henry Street near Mirabito Stadium and quickly spread to 126 next door. Binghamton Police were able to rescue one person from the first floor of 126 while the remaining occupants got out on their own.
