After years in the making, Markham’s Cathedral of the Transfiguration is holding regular services. More than 30 years after construction kicked off and a cornerstone was blessed by then-Pope John Paul II, the towering structure, which anchors the Cathedraltown subdivision, is still incomplete. Though, after 10 years of vacancy during which the space was only used for special events, the cathedral has now been playing host to regular church services from a displaced congregation. Thornhill’s Jesus the King Greek Melkite Catholic Church has been holding weekly mass at the cathedral since its ..read more

Towering cliffs, strange rock formations, numerous caves, dense forest, glens, meadows, and flowers all surrounded by crystal clear water make Flowerpot Island one of the best attractions on the Peninsula. There were originally three flowerpots on the island (one fell down in 1903). These seastacks were created by waves pounding at the cracks in the limestone, gradually wearing away the softer lower limestone from the harder dolomite top. The resulting shape resembles a giant flowerpot. Other relics of the ancient sea that once covered all the Great Lakes area are the caves located 20 mete ..read more

China’s express delivery companies are increasing their input into technologies, in a bid to speed up the transition from a labor-intensive industry to an intelligent one. According to China’s State Post Bureau, 13.67 billion parcels have been delivered in the first 4 months of 2018, up 29.3 percent from last year. Courier services were considered a labor-intensive industry in the past. However, with an increasing labor price, it’s natural that the industry wishes to apply new technologies to reduce costs. The first humans arrived in Niagara Region almost 12,000 years ago, just in time to witness the birth of the Falls. The land was different then, consisting of tundra and spruce forest. During this time (the Palaeo-Indian Period, which lasted until 9,000 years ago), Niagara was inhabited by the Clovis people. These nomadic hunters likely camped along the old Lake Erie shoreline, living in simple, tiny dwellings. They left little to mark their tenure except chipped stones. These large, fluted projectile points were likely to fell the caribou, masto ..read more
