Massive Transformer Explosion on Mariners Mile
Save Newport

This morning at about 8am, a massive transformer exploded behind the wig shop next to the old Mama’s on PCH.  Building occupants in the immediate area said they felt like their buildings were literally lifted up off the ground as the explosion rocked the area. Newport Beach Fire began responding within 30 minutes. Power is out in the area, and could easily be out for the foreseeable future, and possibly the full the next day, as this giant transformer will be doubtlessly an effort to source and replace. Thanks to SD for the tips and photos ..read more

Newsom’s Recall Is On. Here are the 45 Challengers (and the top 4)

California Governor– and French Laundry’s most recent headline-grabber– Gavin Newsom was officially recalled, as we covered previously.  His challenger?  An eye-popping 45 individual candidates for office. Unlike normal races, this won’t stand to “Split the Vote”, as the recall will consist of two questions: First, do you think Newsom should be recalled?  If 50%+1 of the respondants say YES, then Newsom is gone.  The winner goes to the highest-vote-getter of the challenger list.  They may cannibalize each others votes, but it will not effect the recall action.  Th ..read more

On Saturday at 4:48pm, a panga boat made a stop at a private dock towards The Wedge between the 1200 block and 1500 block of Balboa Blvd and 12 people poured out into the streets. A phone call was made to the NBPD who responded with the code “ASSIST OUTSIDE AGENCY”, and six of the twelve people were found and arrested on illegal immigration charges. Some reports indicate up to 25 individuals exited the panga boat, but the video shows only 12, here: https://youtu.be/zjVqPZQ-T6k The OC Sheriff was the first on the scene, assisted by the Coast Guard. There have been reports that some were ar ..read more

Newport’s 4th of July: Fireworks This Year (And Everything Else to Know)
Save Newport
by Mike Glenn

It’s been one long year since every single councilperson except Kevin Muldoon voted to close the beaches and violate your 1st Amendment right to peaceably assemble on the 4th of July.  This year, some of those very same councilpeople spoke out against Newsom for doing the very same things they did, as though they were inexcusable.  They are. But this year, things appear to be somewhat back to normal, and you’ll want to know how things are playing out– after all, the 4th of July this (long) weekend! This year, fireworks are finally back, after being cancelled in 2019 and 2020 by the c ..read more

Memorial Day: A Day of Remembrance
Save Newport

Thank you to the more-than 2.5 million soldiers who have signed on the line and given everything for this country throughout its history– and the countless families that have had to endure the stress between contact from their loved ones, and the awful news when it came. We can all argue about whether or not wars were justified, but the spirit in which our young soldiers signed up– knowing full well the possible outcomes– their dedication, their work, and their sacrifice– is not outshined. Each one who gave everything for the idea of freedom and the contract that the government made ..read more
