SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A Suffolk-based aviation company is being awarded an FAA Certification. ARNE is a woman-owned small business that works with TSA to maintain safety and security standards.
The FAA Part 135 operating certificate was a three year process. ARNE also provides the jump aircraft for Skydive Suffolk. ARNE was started in 2015 to provide specialized aircraft for
civilian and military parachute training, a release states.
The manager of the Richmond Flight Services Division Office is coming to Skydive Suffolk on

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Suffolk Public Works has announced a speed reduction on Bridge Road in both East and West lanes approaching the Shoulders Hill Road intersection.
The speed will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph within the designated Work Zone area. It's scheduled to start on May 6 and remain in effect during the project.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Two Hampton Roads residents are now $1 million richer thanks to the Virginia Lottery.
On March 19, Delores Smith, from Suffolk, asked her husband to get a Mega Millions ticket from Joe's Kwik Mart. While that ticket didn't win her the $893 million jackpot, Smith was able to match the first five numbers to win $1 million.
"It's unbelievable!" Smith told Lottery officials.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A dog was killed and two elderly residents were injured in a house fire Friday morning in Suffolk, firefighters say.
It broke out around 10:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Eagle Lane in the Chuckatuck area. Photos from Suffolk Fire & Rescue show heavy smoke and flames throughout the one-story home.
Firefighters say the two people who were hurt were occupants of the home, and they were in the process of evacuating when crews arrived. They were taken to the hospital. One of the occupants is reported to be in serious condition, while the other has injuries. A dog was also ki ..read more

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Two people were airlifted after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Wednesday in Suffolk.
Suffolk police say it happened around 4:35 p.m. on westbound Route 58, just west of exit 189.
The crash involved the tractor-trailer and one other vehicle. Both the driver and passenger of that other vehicle were both airlifted to the hospital via helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer driver meanwhile was uninjured.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk firefighters were still battling a two-alarm fire that displaced two people on a North Main Street commercial building early Tuesday morning.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue said they were on the scene of a fire at Carts Unlimited, in the 700 block of N. Main St., after being dispatched to it at 10:04 p.m. Monday, with heavy fire coming from the roof.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- With Earth Day approaching, Suffolk is also set to plant 50 trees to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the merger between the City of Suffolk and the County of Nansemond.
Suffolk, Virginia's largest city in terms of land mass at 430 square miles, officially joined with Nansemond City and other outlying towns in 1974 under Suffolk's name.
The city says civic leagues and homeowner's association's can apply to receive one of the trees, and can pick from one of eight different native species, including Sweetbay Magnolia and Black Tupelo.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Suffolk Fire & Rescue are responding to report of a vehicle driving into a residence on April 14, officials said.
The incident occurred on the 100 Block of Woodlake Terrace.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into a building Friday morning.
According to officials, at 6:54 a.m. a vehicle struck a building in the 400 block of Wellons Street.
Crews arrived to the scene and found damage on the side of a tax-payer style commercial building with an apartment building on the second floor.
