Suffolk City Council and Suffolk School Board held its first joint meeting of the year on Wednesday, April 10, at City Hall. Both parties engaged in fruitful discussion.  Both council and board members expressed positivity on the results of the nearly four-hour meeting and the information they received, which included topics on the city’s FY 2024-25 budget and SPS budget request, elementary school rezonings, enforcement camera revenue being used towards school safety projects, and relocation of the SPS Operations Facility. SFD battles residential fire Friday morning

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the 100 Block of Eagle Lane for a residential structure fire at approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire and smoke showing from a single-story residential structure. Two elderly occupants were evacuating as firefighters arrived. Crews battled the blaze while paramedics treated the occupants. Crews conducted a search and found no additional occupants. Delores Smith doesn’t usually play Mega Millions unless the jackpot gets really large. That was certainly the case on March 19 when the jackpot for that night’s drawing was an estimated $893 million. The Suffolk woman asked her husband to buy her a ticket. He bought it at Joe’s Kwik Mart, located at 1555 Holland Road in Suffolk.
