Members of the Cathcart Group and Suffolk City Council came together on Thursday, April 11, to celebrate the grand opening of the Gallery at Godwin.  Located at 3061 Godwin Blvd, both groups gathered to cut the ribbon and officially welcome the luxury apartment complex to the City of Suffolk, which provides one to three-bedroom apartment homes, resort-style amenities, and proximity to retail. Tractor-Trailer fire in Norfolk slows morning commute

An early morning tractor-trailer fire shut down all eastbound lanes of I-64 in Norfolk Wednesday morning. The fire occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. at mile marker 273, and a diversion has been set up at 15th View. According to the Virginia State Patrol, the fire has been extinguished, and efforts are being made to remove the vehicle from travel lanes. However, there is no estimated time for all lanes to reopen. No injuries were reported. The Suffolk landfill serving eight Hampton Roads localities, including Isle of Wight County, could reach capacity by 2027, according to projections by the Southeastern Public Service Authority, its regional governing body. It isn’t unexpected. A bright and windy Friday saw USS John F. Kennedy sailors participate in a citywide cleanup.  Held in partnership with the city of Suffolk and Keep Suffolk Beautiful, over 400 sailors came out to volunteer and clean 20 areas within Suffolk on Friday, April 12. Rounding out their data, Suffolk Public Works says that the sailors collected 410 bags of trash and 20 tires, with an estimated 10,470 pounds of garbage. During the clean-up, Cmdr. An impromptu party occurred in downtown Suffolk as Gourmet Burger Bistro held its official grand opening.  Located at 202 E. This past Saturday, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police teamed up again to help residents “fingerprint” their cars. During the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Etching and Constitutional Officer’s Day event held at 1200 N. Main St., residents came out to get their cars marked with a VIN, a chemical etching their VIN to help prevent automobile theft. Photo courtesy of Suffolk Fire and Rescue At 12:11 p.m. on April 13, 2024, Franklin Fire and Rescue received a 911 call for a fire alarm at the commercial facility located at 32126 General Thomas Highway, Franklin, VA 23851, Hampton Farms.  According to Franklin Fire and Rescue, the facility had a fire in the roaster (oven).  The roaster was shut down and the employees of the business were evacuated.  The building was extremely smoky, which complicated the extinguishment of the fire.  The fire was determined to be contained in the roaster and the exhaust system.  Extr ..read more
