Hi there, my name is Jennifer Andy-Philip and like many of my readers I also went through the rigour of a typical Nigerian University, to make matters more sensitive, a prestigious one at that. This can only mean that I wasn't excused from being given immunity against the most feared factor of the Nigerian tertiary educationā€¦strikeā€¦ Follow me closely and let me tell you a short story. Once upon a year, it was that time of the semester when the examination was beyond around the corner, it was just a breath away. If you are familiar with this scenario you will agree with me that that period is ..read more

OUR REALITY One afternoon my sleep was abruptly brought to an end by the persistent knocking of a neighbor, I decided to lay my back on the bare ground so that with that I might attempt to soothe the scorching communication that the sun was having with the walls of the room making the temperature rise so bad it was like I was traveling a desert trail. Somewhere between me trying to get my sleep back and deciding how I was to adapt to the heat that had so greatly engulfed the room, the voices of a teacher and her pupils reading through a comprehension passage drew my attention. The passage w ..read more

Hello fam?, it's actually been a while. Here's a peice that I got from my place of Koinonia and I'll love to share...  You whispers of love sends chills down my spine every morning. It's delivered daily at my doorstep through your mercy, the rising sun reasures me of your unending passion to see and know that I am and will be yours forever. How far have we come, it seem like yesterday when my face was battered beyond recognition, justice was legally to be ruled out on me because how I owed that debt was what I couldn't fathom but that angry mob was willing to take it out of me. Then you ..read more

He began wondering what could be going through her mind that made her to sit so still as she fed her baby, he didn't observe her making effort to communicate with her baby like every mother will do after a successful delivery. He looked down at both of them and wondered the next step they will both have to take, how had she even been feeding, looking around the room he tried identifying kitchen utensils but didn't seem to find any. She needed to replenish her strength and be strong because the baby seemed very pressed on getting her own share of food. It could be that she was very tired and ..read more

For a moment she wanted to scream for help but the last time she attempted doing that she remembered how it ended, who was this stranger anyway and why was he in her room. She quickly presumed that the child he was holding was hers because of the way he clutched it to his chest to keep it warm. At this point she really wanted to open up her mouth but she didn't find the strength that will enable her to speak not to talk about screaming. So she just lay there staring back into the eyes of this stranger as he deliberately stared back and for some funny reason refused looking away. Well for t ..read more

Streaks of sunlight gradually began to invade the room, the tired mother had only moved a few times which brought comfort to his heart because of the pain and struggle he percived she had passed through. The little creature was peacefully asleep in his arms and a sense of peace and belonging clutched his heart. His childhood was a part of him that he didn't really want to willingly remember, he longed for warmth as this, he craved attention which he never got. He sometimes wished the universe will be on a stand still for him to find the missing pieces to the puzzle of his life and fix them t ..read more

The night was unusual, he couldn't get a grip on his sleep. It was obvious that his body was not in synchrony with the night time, or the atmosphere was trying to whisper something into his ears. He had been the mediator between the land of the spirits and the people since his father passed on. It's not like he was particularly pleased with the whole position but since he was ever loyal to his father while the man was alive, he wanted to see this through.   A strong and unusual wind hit the door as it flung open bringing the tiny calabashes that we're hung by the door post to crash ..read more

Her fingers clutched deeper into her blanket which she literally had dragged from her sleeping mat. She began to render little prayers to God as a peace offering in case it was still part of a punishment for getting pregnant. Her life had only began to fall in place when He came around and made her feel so easily distracted. The moments they shared were filled with an electric transfer of emotions. The reality of it was that he also turned his back when she decided to keep the baby. The contractions came again making her heart to race even faster. Was she going to die, images of child birth ..read more

It was midnight and her heart was broken for the pain was at it's peak. It was beginning to go with the rate of her heart beat, no one could come to her rescue. She crawled gently to the entrance as she waited for her fate to be decided by time. The night was taking a deeper strole into darkness and the quietness that surrounded her was unimaginable. Her squeals were becoming louder and louder but the compound was all vauge and empty. The echo of her voice went into the darkness as she anticipated for help that wasn't close by. How did she get to this point, she knew the pregnancy wasn't he ..read more

DO NOT FRET BECAUSE OF EVIL MEN  My note pad was choked with various series of the happenings in my world that could not be explained or could be explained but no one was strong enough to hold the ugly bull by the horns and stare it in the face...I was beginning to understand the grief of the preacher as he spat those words from the altar. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life...but just outside the gates of the one that most frequently recites that portion every morning is a dying child, a hungry mother and a hopeless father. Just outside those gates is ..read more
