In response to the recent vandalism at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park, the International Association of Firefighters Local 556, has offered to donate their time and any funds necessary to repair the vandalism at the basketball courts area at the park. The Hammond City Council is once again providing fifteen $1,000 scholarships to Hammond Indiana high school seniors graduating in May/June 2024. All seniors who plan to enroll in either a two-year or a four-year degree program at an accredited college or university of their choice, are encouraged to apply. On April 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM, the Hammond Indiana Police Department responded to a distress call reporting an overdose death at a multi-unit building in the 1100 block of Indiana Street.
