a symbol of identity and family history, which connects us to one another. It has no meaning for me. I stopped using my surname on my 23rd birthday. It was decision I made after researching and educating myself about my heritage. As we know surnames are used for everything, identity documentation, forms, job applications and CV’s, getting a mortgage, placing an online order, the list is endless. It is our identifier – well that is not the case not for me. I do not identify with my surname because it is not my name. My ancestor adopted the name from a slave master whom they were property o ..read more

Five years. That’s how long i have owned this jacket. Over that time i’ve worn it to festivals, pubs, weekly food shopping trips and for many, many more occasions. It looks as though changes to our lives will be around for far longer than we all expected and i’ve realised the true value in what i do to maintain my clothes. You see for me it’s just as important as buying well. I still want to enjoy clothing, however i also need to be realistic. Life’s priorities are not necessarily shopping. Things like finding work, eating, my health are on top of that list for not only now but also ..read more

this weeks news has been full of stories about multi-million pound companies applying for the government furlough system with many people, journalists and celebs alike turning against these business owners and their companies. now in my opinion with every negative, there must be positive following closely behind and with that in mind i’d like to shine a light and celebrate some of the businesses going the extra mile and doing that little bit more than just the hard sell. most of these companies are small, sustainable, independent businesses who rely on sales, no matter how big or s ..read more

i’ve been feeling very nostalgic ever since life changed. we are living in crazy times right now and one of the few things i am getting comfort from is clothing. but i think it’s more than that, it’s the memories they give me. i put them on and i instantly go back to the first time i wore them. i miss those days ..read more
