The family of a man killed last year by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies is suing the county. Arturo Cernas, 34, was shot and killed in Carson on Aug. 7, 2023, after deputies responded to the 17400 block of South Central Avenue for reports of a man "causing a disturbance and screaming at the gas pumps," the Sheriff's Department said in a news release. On Saturday, Aisha Woods posted a video to Facebook showing the work she and others had done cleaning up Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 16701 S. Central Ave. in Carson. A tornado hit the Carson and Compton area Thursday morning, causing damage to businesses and leaving debris strewn around. The National Weather Service confirmed that a brief EF0 tornado occurred near the border of the two cities.
