LEWISVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Lewisville is temporarily closing to the public due to an increase in COVID-19 cases among workers.

The facility is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
“The closure of this facility is being done in an attempt to protect the health of staff and visitors,” a spokesperson said in a new release.

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) — There was a lengthy morning rush hour backup along a highway in Lewisville after a school bus crash.
It was just before 9:00 a.m. when the bus crashed near the southbound TEXpress lanes of Interstate-35E — near Corporate Drive. There were no children onboard the Durham School Services bus at the time.
Fire investigators say the bus hit the retainers at the end of a concrete divider. The bus was heavily damaged, with the impact of the crash ripping the front axle off. It isn’t known exactly how fast the school bus was traveling.

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – A student was detained for bringing a gun to Harmon High School on Sept. 1. He now faces a charge of having a gun in places where weapons are prohibited, a third-degree felony.
The student did not make any specific threats and was removed from campus by Lewisville Police officers without incident. Police said they haven’t yet determined why the juvenile had the gun.

LEWISVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A Lewisville officer and his K-9 partner retired together on Friday.
A retirement ceremony was held Friday morning to commemorate two partners who spent their lives in law enforcement.
Menz retired after 17 years with the department and over 25 years of work in law enforcement. He said it was a decision was hard to make, but it was made easier with his K-9 partner by his side.

LEWISVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A Lewisville officer and his K-9 partner are retiring together this week, police announced Thursday.
A retirement ceremony will be held on Friday for Shane Menz and K-9 Cziko in the Glenmore Savage Community Room of the Lewisville Municipal Annex at 9 a.m., and it will be open to the public.
Police said Menz is retiring after 17 years with the department and over 25 years of work in law enforcement.

LEWISVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Lewisville City Manager Donna Barron announced this week she is retiring effective Jan. 31, 2022.
Barron has been Lewisville’s manager since 2014 and has been with the city since 1990.

LEWISVILLE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A lifeguard shortage across North Texas has caused places like Lewisville’s Sun Valley Aquatic Center to push back its season opening.
Now, potential hires are hoping they can help solve this problem.
“If no one else is going to do it then who will? Water is fun but it can be very, very dangerous and not a lot of people see that or overlook that sometimes,” said Jaellyn Erickson, a potential lifeguard hire.

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – The City of Lewisville will begin reopening its facilities to the public on Monday, Feb. 22, now that the daily COVID-19 hospitalization rate in Denton County has remained below 15% for more than seven consecutive days.
City facilities have been closed to the public since Dec. 4 to adhere to safety guidelines in Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order GA-32. That executive order included reducing capacity at businesses to 50%, closing bars with certain TABC licenses, and restricting elective surgeries.

NEW YORK (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Mechanical workers will soon be ‘on the clock’ at Texas Walmart locations. The company says it is enlisting the help of robots to keep up with their ever increasing number of online orders.
The company said it plans to build warehouses at its stores where self-driving robots will gather groceries and have them ready for shoppers to pick up in an hour or less.
