DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD baseball team was unable to snap their five-game losing streak on Tuesday, dropping two games to Concordia-St. Paul. In game one, the Golden Bears would rally in the 6th and 7th to pull away with the 12-7 victory. Following that contest, Concordia had a fast start in game two, putting up five in the first three innings to eventually take the 11 to 7 win. DULUTH, Minn.- UMD softball would have four players earn All-Conference honors on Tuesday. Senior pitcher Lauren Dixon, senior outfielder Kat Burkhardt, and junior first baseman Nicole Schmitt would land on the NSIC First Team. And on the 2nd team was former Proctor Rail and freshman pitcher Maddy Walsh. This is the 2nd time Schmitt and Dixon have made it on the first team. MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn.- Former Duluth East head coach Mike Randolph will no longer be the head coach at St. Thomas Academy. According to Youth Hockey Hub, Randolph and the Cadets have parted ways. He spent the last three seasons on the coaching staff, two of which he was the head coach. Randolph would lead St. Thomas Academy to the Section 3AA championship, before falling to Cretin-Derham Hall this past season. DULUTH, Minn. — The 26th Homegrown Music Festival is well underway! Tuesday night featured four musical acts at the festival’s largest venue yet — AMSOIL Arena. The festival features about 160 bands or artists at 35 venues spread across the Twin Ports. DULUTH, Minn – The Twin Ports interchange project won’t be completed until the end of 2025 instead of the end of this year. MNDOT says the discovery of a jaw bone in the construction zone last February is the main reason for the delay. In 2019, prior to construction starting the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council reviewed the site for potential impact on Indian burial grounds. SUPERIOR, Wis.- The UW-Superior women’s hockey team has a new head coach. Bre Simon becomes the 6th head coach in program history. She comes from Elmira College, where she spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach. Prior to that, she spent two years at Gentry Academy and was co-head coach for one season. Simon played collegiately at Hamline University. She’s the all-time leader in goals, assists, and points. Tuesday was quiet and peaceful on the waters of Lake Superior. But fifty-seven years ago, the winds were vicious and the swells high. Four would die. The annual ceremony to remember those who drowned took place Tuesday at the Duluth pier. It marks the 57th anniversary of the tragic drowning that took the lives of the three Halverson family teenage brothers, and the man who drowned trying to save them.
