Every Ison Springs Elementary School student will receive a free pair of athletic shoes from a Mount Vernon School student’s charitable efforts. (Bob Pepalis)
Ison Springs Elementary School students went home on Friday with a pair of new shoes courtesy of a Mount Vernon School junior.
Mount Vernon School junior Collin Maher used funds raised through the Cocoa Classic 5K run he held for a second year to buy shoes for approximately 475 students. In 2023 he founded the race as his Eagle Scout project. Funds raised last year paid for shoes for Lake Forest Elementary School students.

Buckhead’s Larry Connolly and Sandy Springs resident Keith Mason will be watching the Kentucky Derby on May 4 with more interest than most as they have two horses competing in the Run for the Roses.
The syndicate they formed, West Paces Racing LLC, owns one-third of both Dornoch and Society Man.
“We’re the only ownership group that has that,” Mason said.

The contract only involves site work for the new North Springs High School, including demolition of sports facilities, parking lots, and driveways. (Provided by FCS)
The Fulton County School Board approved a contract on April 26 for more than $14.1 million to perform site prep work for a new North Springs High School building.
Chief Operations Officer Noel Maloof told the board during its work session on April 16 that the recommended contractor for the phase one site construction was Vertical Earth of Cumming.

Kanell co-wrote the film “Faceless After Dark,” which is playing at this year’s Atlanta Film Festival, with Todd Jacobs. When director Raymond Wood originally approached her, he said he wanted a movie about a killer clown. But Kanell, who is known for her role in the cult classic horror movie “Terrifier,” wasn’t really interested in making yet another movie about clowns that kill.

Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation Wednesday aimed at illegal squatting.
House Bill 1017, which the Georgia House and Senate passed unanimously during this year’s legislative session, creates the offense of unlawful squatting when someone enters upon the land or premises of the owner without the owner or rightful occupant’s knowledge or consent.
The bill comes amid an increase nationwide in highly publicized reports of trespassers committing violence against homeowners, landlords, or real estate agents, as well as vandalizing properties.
