Utica man arrested on inappropriate contact charges

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- A Utica man has been arrested by Oneida County Sheriffs on Monday, April 29 for engaging in inappropriate conduct with a minor, according to the Sheriffs' Child Advocacy Center. The investigation began in March when members of the Child Advocacy Center were notified of a case of inappropriate conduct. Further investigation of the incident found that the victim was a 13-year-old child, and the suspect was 18-year-old Damerious Thomas of Utica. AFRL warns of controlled burn in Verona

VERONA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Rome is warning residents of a controlled burn to occur next week. On the week of May 5, the AFRL will conduct a controlled burn at the Verona Test Annex on State Route 31 in the town of Verona. This burn could also affect the nearby town of Durhamville and the City of Oneida, as well as other towns in the vicinity. According to the AFRL, the proposed burn will happen in small parcels on 140 of the near-500 acres of the annex. HERKIMER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- Police are investigating an accident on Wednesday, April 24 that left one person dead on State Route 28 in Herkimer, according to New York State Police. Officers were called to State Route 28 in the Town of Herkimer at approximately 4:16 pm on Wednesday, April 24 for a three-car accident. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement regarding reading education Friday in Albany. "Back to Basics" reading legislation was signed into law as part of the FY 2025 budget. The "Back to Basics" plan will have every New York classroom use evidence-based instructions to improve reading rates across the state.
