Image Source: IMDb We went to watch The Kingdom because of my good friend Pamy Villa, who has a cameo role in the movie. We watched out for her and gasped with surprise when she came on screen with Piolo Pascual. Her subdued acting shone through despite a brief appearance.  The premise of the movie is what if we were not colonized and still governed by the tradition of babaylans and Bathala?  But the movie went on to showcase both uncolonized, colonized, and modern-day topics on the fight for power (local and international), greed, and family struggle. Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. Real love is a simple, everyday kind of thing: a smile, a hug, an encouragement. Continuous love without effort. #AllDevotion #love #whatislove Photo by Ekaterina Shakharova on Unsplash Like what you're reading? Subscribe here. Let's stay connected. She doesn’t access her Facebook but I want the online world to know how awesome my mother is. We fondly call her Baliling and Mamalo. She is my confidante and quiet strength. We can talk for hours on phone, so you can just imagine if we are together. LOL If you think I am cool? She is way much cooler. Prayerful and always grateful and hopeful. Miss positivity. Miss optimistic. She gives and gives and so people around her take and take ha ha! I don’t remember her nagging or making a sermon over things at home. So I grew up not only in a home but in a haven. And to me, it means a lot growing ..read more

I often hear the term, "cancel culture," so I Googled what it really means.  According to Dictionary.com, it is a phenomenon or practice of publicly rejecting, boycotting, or ending support for particular people or groups because of their socially or morally unacceptable views or actions.  I see another situation that I think cancel culture applies, too.  That is when you disregard the efforts of other people just because it is not aligned with yours. You judge their activities as useless and worthless because they are not attuned to yours. You set aside other people's acco ..read more

Reflection on Holy Days

I grew up observing the Holy Week the traditional way. No TV, no radio, no other activity except reading the Bible or any book, be home and keep silent most times.  The tradition lives on till today. It has been engraved to me that if I deviate from it, I would feel really uncomfortable. My family now has followed the same.  I know each one has a different way of observing the holy days, and so we should respect it. But I can't help feeling annoyed when in the middle of it, people (because they believe otherwise or they practice their faith differently) still go on with the ..read more
