The Washington Capitals and New York Rangers will meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 10th time ever but first in nine seasons, when New York won Game 7 of the second round in overtime.
New York has won six of the series and Washington last beat them in the postseason in 2011, a five-game victory in the first round. Game 1 from Madison Square Garden will be on Sunday afternoon (3 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network locally, ESPN nationally) but the full series schedule has yet to be announced.

The Washington Capitals will face the Presidents’ Trophy-winning New York Rangers in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The series is reportedly set to open at Madison Square Garden at 3 PM ET on Sunday but a full schedule has yet to be released.
New York went 55-23-4 (.695 points percentage) in their first season under head coach Peter Laviolette, who parted ways with Washington last year after spending three seasons behind their bench.

The Washington Capitals downed the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The victory gives the Capitals a record of 40-31-11 (91 points) for the 2023-24 regular season and a berth in the 2024 postseason.
The Capitals opened the scoring on a deflected shot by captain Alex Ovechkin late in the first frame for the game’s first lead and a 1-o advantage at the first intermission.

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson notched his 150th career goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday evening, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in Goals Scored by a defenseman.
The goal came at a crucial point in the the club’s game against the Bolts, notching a power play goal at 8:29 to give the Caps a 3-2 lead; assists were credited to Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson.
