LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — Following suit with both the State of California and Los Angeles County, both Pasadena and Long Beach announced an ease of indoor mask requirements Saturday. The state was the first to ease indoor mask mandates, lifting the statewide requirement in the wake of the Omicron variant surge on Feb. 15, allowing vaccinated individuals to go maskless in most settings, with public transportation, schools, airports and medical care centers being the exception. PASADENA (CBSLA) – A man lost his life on Friday after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a parked car at Sunset Avenue and Washington Place. Oscar Munoz-Luna was behind the wheel of a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck that collided with a parked vehicle that was parked on the southside of Washington Place west of Sunset Avenue. PASADENA (CBSLA) – After a recent spike in shootings and gun crime, Pasadena is trying some new strategies, using former gang members and clerics to try and stop the violence. PASADENA (CBSLA) – A new detection system that allows police to pinpoint in real-time exactly when and where a gunshot is coming from went into operation Thursday in Pasadena. The ShotSpotter system, which was approved by the Pasadena City Council last October, uses sensors “to triangulate the sound and pinpoint the location of the gunfire,” according to the Pasadena Police Department. PASADENA (CBSLA) — The westbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena is back open after being shut down for several hours early Monday morning due to a fatal incident at Lake Avenue. (credit: CBS) Two right lanes were closed on the westbound 210 Freeway at the Lake Avenue off-ramp at about 2:35 a.m. due to a death investigation involving a pedestrian, according to the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — An Altadena man who allegedly shot at Planned Parenthood in Pasadena with a BB gun several times in the past two years was arrested Friday on a federal gun charge. Richard Royden Chamberlin, 53, was arrested Friday morning by the FBI on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. His arrest follows the filing of a one-count criminal complaint that charged Chamberlin with the illegal possession of a .22-caliber handgun during one of the attacks on the women’s reproductive health clinic.
