This week during lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, SPHS students are experiencing the second annual Career Fair, a special event co-hosted by the SPHS Counseling Department and the SPHS PTSA. Professionals across a variety of careers are on hand to talk with students about their jobs including work experiences, daily routines, the hiring process, what they like about their jobs, any challenges they might have, company cultures, growth opportunities within their field, educational path, and more. Student athletes from all schools in the South Pasadena school district were invited to participate in the annual All City Track Meet sponsored by the district’s PTSA organizations with support from the SPUSD. Youngsters vied for Olympic style medals in running and field events. Participants wore colorful shirts sporting the event’s logo and designating which school they were from. Events were designated separately by various grade levels and included sprints, distance runs as well as field events such as shot put, high jump, and long jump. Tiger Newspaper has received a Gold Medal award from the prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Association for all work completed throughout the 2022-2023 school year. On Friday night (April 19, 2024), in the top ranked boys invitational 4 x 800, a 44 year old record set by Coach Parkinson himself was beat by .13 seconds, highlighted by Keeran Murray’s 1:51.91 anchor leg (a NEW SCHOOL RECORD relay split for the 800m). The lead off leg was freshman Michal Scarince, who had been battling a 103 degree fever the night before. He ran within 1 second of his best 800 time at 2:00.43. Members of the South Pasadena Arts Council, along with city officials and South Pasadenan arts advocates gathered at the site of SPARC’s new gallery and permanent home at the Fremont Centre Theatre building at 1000 Fremont Avenue. The space is located behind Fiore Café, facing the parking lot where revelers gathered for refreshments, live music, a raffle while exploring the new gallery.
