The University of Kansas informed the NCAA’s IRP (Independent Resolution Panel) last week that it was self-imposing several sanctions in response to its ongoing basketball case, which originated in 2017. The sanctions include: Four-game suspension for Head Coach Bill Self and Assistant Coach Kurtis Townsend to be served during the first four regular season games of the 2022-23 season. The absence of Self and Townsend from all off-campus recruiting-related activities for four months (April through July 2022). The Kansas State Wildcats are the biggest riser of any team in the country in this week’s AP Top 25, shooting up nine spots from No. 22 5o No. 13 after their dominant victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Led by a strong effort from Will Howard, Deuce Vaughn and the defense, the Wildcats pieced together one of the most lopsided victories between ranked Power 5 opponents in recent years. Washburn Rural is headed to regionals for the second year in a row after a 36-0 shutout victory over Dodge City at home Friday night. The Junior Blues will face Garden City, the No. 3 seed in the 6A West bracket, on the road this week. The only 5A team moving on from the area is Shawnee Heights, which held off Lansing 28-21 in Week 9 for its second win over the Lions this year. The Washburn Ichabod defense held Northeastern State to 54 yards in the second half forcing six punts and Taylon Peters scored on a 3-yard run with 1:49 to go in the game as the Ichabods won their 10th game in a row over Northeastern State in a 21-17 win on Saturday in Tahlequah. Kansas FFA’s candidate for national office is moving onto the next round.  The organization announced Monday night on social media that Elizabeth Sturgis would take part in the second round of the interview process, coinciding with the 95th National FFA Convention this week in Indianapolis.  Sturgis served as Kansas FFA President during the 2020-21 school year and is a graduate of Riverton High School.  The six members of the new national officer team will be announced Saturday during the convention’s final general session.  Should Sturgis be selected, she’ll be the first ..read more
